The energy yield delivered by different types of photovoltaic device is a key consideration in the selection appropriate technologies for cheap electricity. currently on market, each have certain strengths and weaknesses when it comes to operating environments. There plethora comparative tests on-going with sometimes contradictory results. This paper investigates behaviour contrasting thin film technologies, specifically a-Si CIGS derivatives, places this analysis into context results...
The paper compares the effectiveness of in-person and virtual engineering laboratory sessions. sessions reported here comprise six experiments combined with short tutorials. lab enquiry-based learning gamification principles. integration labs teaching created a blended environment. this approach was assessed based on (i) student feedback (i.e., questionnaire open-ended questions Likert scale feedback), (ii) students’ engagement lab, (iii) impact academic performance class test results)....
A model for the annual performance of different module technologies is presented that includes spectral effects. The based on realistic reporting conditions but also allows secondary effects, as experienced by multi-junction devices. validated against measurements taken at CREST and shows a good agreement all Combining this relatively simple with ASPIRE, irradiance standard meteorological measurements, translation to other locations. method applied devices deployed in Loughborough University...
The paper describes a digital-computer solution for 3-phase thyristor bridge-rectifier circuits. To cope efficiently with the complex commutation conditions when source impedance is significant, based on Kron's method of tensor analysis. Theoretical results are shown to compare closely experimental same circuit conditions.
Abstract This prospective study compares the results of pre-operative clinical examination and simple ultrasound neck in 18 patients with proven head primary tumours palpable cervical lymphadenopathy, who then underwent 21 radical dissections. Neck palpation were compared histological examination. Ultrasound did not add significantly to information obtainable by this group patients.
Eight separate energy prediction methods, developed independently across European Universities and Research Centres, have been compared with respect to their estimated DC generation for five different photovoltaic (PV) module technologies 7 sites distributed over whole Europe. The analysis of this work is the basis further improvements each modelling approaches thus enables a reduction error in PV yield estimations. recently completed first three planned round-robin inter-comparisons found...
Investigation into the underlying disease causing an aural polyp is often hampered when itself obscures tympanic membrane. This retrospective analysis of 65 patients undergoing polypectomy was carried out to identify any predictive factors for cholesteatoma and determine a correct management strategy polyps. The duration symptoms, size polyp, conductive component hearing loss bacteriology otorrhoea were unhelpful as predictors disease. Radiological evidence bony erosion mastoid useful sign...
The seasonal performance fluctuations observed in amorphous silicon solar cells are investigated. dominant forces driving the increased efficiency summer identified, from long-term measurements, to be thermal annealing and spectral variations. A method for correcting changes incident spectrum is applied order correct changes. In a second step, fill factor investigated establish magnitude of seen by these devices. each effect
Abstract This paper present 35 patient with carcinoma of the tongue who have been treated in Southampton using Carbon laser. The treatment programme for each individual was determined by radiotherapists and surgeons a combined head neck/oncology clinic. T1 carcinomas were primary laser excision biopsy whereas larger tumours first conventional radiotherapy unless there significant contraindication to this modality. Of 10 patients lesions nine are alive well disease free, but one died other...
STC efficiencies are not sufficient to compare photovoltaic devices of different semiconductor material or device configurations. The energy yield changes as the variables deviates from their original values when modules placed in various climatic conditions. magnitude this change for is always clear and needs be investigated modelled. A modeling analysis method named site specific conditions (SSC) demonstrated which a measure-correlate-predict approach. It allows an accurate estimation...
During the four years of PERFORMANCE project enormous contributions to pre-normative research related photovoltaic modules and systems have been achieved. The ranged from instantaneous device characterisation system measurements their life-time performance prediction assessment. This paper presents results 3rd final modelling Round Robin (RR3) for PV module energy prediction. It describes inter-comparison various methods with a direct link currently discussed IEC61853 rating standard....
The increasing deployment of photovoltaic (PV) systems requires large numbers skilled engineers with a greater understanding all aspects PV technology both theoretical and practical. Developing experimental rigs at universities is expensive limited to students physically attending the university. One recent approach increase access laboratories development remote experiments. Here can control real equipment using visual interface via Internet. In this paper we explore laboratory enable users...

Although conventional commutator-brush DC servomotors and gearing systems have found wide application in drives for small- medium-sized industrial robots, they a number of limitations. The work described has involved the development brushless motor direct-drive system high-positional-accuracy robot, which overcomes these limitations improves performance. Typical experimental results on test rig are presented discussed.
