In the last decade, multiple studies depicted discrepancies between mitral valvular orifice area (MVA) measurements obtained with pressure half-time (PHT) method and invasive methods during immediate post-percutaneous valvuloplasty (PMV) period. Our aim was to assess accuracy of Real-Time 3D echo (RT3D) measure MVA in post-PMV The invasively determined used as gold standard. We studied 29 patients rheumatic stenosis from two centres (27 women; mean age 48.2+/-11.3 years), all which had...
Introduction: Several studies have shown a wide variability among different methods to determine the valve area in patients with rheumatic mitral stenosis. Our aim was evaluate if 3D-echo planimetry is more accurate than Gorlin method measure area.
Abstract Background- Left ventricular outflow tract obstruction is an independent predictor of adverse outcome in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). The classical quantification intraventricular performed resting conditions supine position, but this assessment does not reflect what happens HCM patients (pts) their daily activities, neither during effort nor orthostatic recovery. Aim- To assess gradients with echocardiography treadmill exercise and the recovery period upright pts. Methods- We...
Background: Exercise stress echocardiography (ESE) is commonly employed in adults, but its applicability pediatric populations remains to be clarified. Methods: A total of 309 consecutive children (C), with a mean age 14.1 ± 2.6 years (range 6-17 years), underwent treadmill ESE starting 2002. They were divided into two groups: Group I comprised 258 children, including 237 symptoms related exercise (such as chest pain, fatigue, lipothymia/syncope, or one aborted sudden death), 15...
Objectives Our aim was to provide an initial description of the usefulness real-time 3-dimensional (3D) echocardiography when evaluating patients with infective endocarditis. Methods For this purpose, we describe 3 cases in which 3D is shown. Results Better definition morphologic characteristics vegetation and valvular apparatus achieved echocardiography. Furthermore, information provided by echocardiogram surgical team accurate direct because it not based on detailed verbal for performing a...
Tetralogy of Fallot is one the most common forms cyanotic congenital heart disease and in absence surgical correction it has an elevated early mortality, with patients dying childhood. The authors reported this case because unusual course uncorrected tetralogy Fallot. There are only a few reports who reach advanced age to best our knowledge first report possible endocarditis patient older than 70 years. present 72-year-old Caucasian woman was admitted fever failure Cardiology Department...
Doppler echocardiography is useful in the initial evaluation and long-term follow-up of patients with pulmonary artery hypertension. Aerosolised iloprost has been shown to reduce pressure immediately after inhalation. We report echocardiographic findings a patient severe hypertension, before inhalation aerosolized iloprost. These illustrate acute influence right left ventricular hemodynamics morphology. were reproduced subsequent evaluations.
Left ventricular pseudoaneurysms and true aneurysms are two possible complications of myocardial infarction. However, while pseudoaneuryms require urgent surgical resection, aneuryms can often be managed medically, making imperative an accurate diagnosis. The authors describe a case delayed rupture aneurysm that was contained gave rise to pseudoaneurysm inside aneurysm. The echocardiography allowed the differential diagnosis for timely intervention which resulted in patient's full recovery.
We describe the case of a 30-year-old female patient with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension that has an excellent functional capacity under treatment sildenafil. She did exercise stress echocardiography revealed marked right ventricular dilatation during exercise. This information was used for clinical decision and authors discuss potential utility this echocardiographyc sign.
