G<i>α</i>i-coupled receptors play important roles in protecting the heart from ischemic injury. Regulator of G protein signaling (RGS) proteins suppress G<i>α</i>i by accelerating GTPase activity subunits. However, individual RGS modulating injury are unknown. In this study, we investigated effect RGS6 deletion on myocardial sensitivity to Hearts knockout (RGS6−/−) and wild-type (RGS6+/+) mice were subjected 30 minutes ischemia 2 hours reperfusion a Langendorff...

Individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) experience many debilitating symptoms, including intrusive memories, persistent anxiety and avoidance of trauma-related cues. PTSD also results in numerous physiological complications, increased risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, characterization PTSD-induced alterations is lacking, especially preclinical models the disorder. Thus, we examined impact a psychosocial predator-based animal model on myocardial sensitivity to...

Methamphetamine is one of the most common illicit drugs abused during pregnancy. The neurological effects prenatal methamphetamine are well known. However, few studies have investigated potential on adult cardiovascular function. Previous work demonstrated that cocaine exposure increases sensitivity heart to ischemic injury. and different mechanisms action, but both exert their by increasing dopaminergic adrenergic receptor stimulation. Thus goal this study was determine whether also worsens...

The objectives of this study were (1) to evaluate the role a full-time academic plastic surgeon, (2) define indicators predictive successful career in surgery, and (3) understand current issues that will affect future trends practice surgery.A questionnaire was developed surgeons challenges facing surgery. Each surgery program director United States sent survey for distribution among all surgeons.Over 6-week period, responses from 143 (approximately 31%) returned. Fifty-three percent...

Sleep deprivation is associated with increased risk of myocardial infarction. However, it unknown whether the effects sleep are limited to increasing likelihood experiencing a infarction or if also increases extent injury. In this study, rats were deprived paradoxical for 96 h using platform-over-water method. Control subjected same condition except control platform was large enough sleep. Hearts from and 20 min ischemia on Langendorff isolated heart system. Infarct size post ischemic...

ANCA-associated vasculitis is a multiorgan autoimmune inflammatory disease that has heterogeneous clinical presentation. Our case report provides additional evidence supporting the association between granulomatosis with polyangiitis and myositis. Edwardsiella tarda (E. tarda) is a gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic bacillus that associated with gastroenteritis and host of other extra-intestinal manifestations in humans. However, its impact on the kidneys unclear. Most literature has explored this association involves fish, marine life which E. inhabits. We report rare case 72-year-old female who presented an acute kidney injury (AKI) newfound minimal change disease, subacute interstitial nephritis, severe infection. Her clinical...

The incidence of pyomyositis in immunocompromised patients with HIV, diabetes, myelodysplastic syndromes, and acute lymphocytic leukemia is well documented. However, there are only a few reports myonecrosis chronic (CLL). We present rare case presenting as secondary to methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia 72-year-old patient CLL. Pyomyositis, although rare, warrants increased provider awareness management, especially among CLL who pose diagnostic treatment challenges.
