We report a discovery that perfunctionalized icosahedral dodecaborate clusters of the type B12(OCH2Ar)12 (Ar = Ph or C6F5) can undergo photo-excitation with visible light, leading to new class metal-free photooxidants. Excitation in these species occurs as result charge transfer between low-lying orbitals located on benzyl substituents and an unoccupied orbital delocalized throughout boron cluster core. Here we show how species, photo-excited benchtop blue LED source, exhibit excited-state...
Solar-powered electrochemical systems have shown promise for onsite wastewater treatment in regions where basic infrastructure conventional is not available. To assess the applicability of these trace organic contaminant treatment, test compound electrolysis rate constants were measured authentic latrine using mixed-metal oxide anodes coupled with stainless steel cathodes. Complete removal ranitidine and cimetidine was achieved within 30 min at an applied potential 3.5 V (0.7 A L–1). Removal...
Abstract We describe the reversible photoactivation of acid sensitive ligand‐gated ion channel ASIC2a, a mammalian found throughout central and peripheral nervous systems that is associated with vision pain. also show activation GLIC, an acid‐sensitive prokaryotic homologue nicotinic acetylcholine receptor. Photoactivation was achieved by using visible light irradiation newly synthesized water‐soluble merocyanine photoacid, 1 , which designed to remove adverse blocking effects related...
Mechanistic studies of a general reaction that decages wide range substrates on exposure to visible light are described. The involves photochemically initiated reduction quinone mediated by an appended thioether. After reduction, trimethyl lock system incorporated into the leads thermal decaging. could be viewed as electron-transfer or hydrogen abstraction-Norrish Type II-reaction. Product analysis, kinetic isotope effects, stereochemical labeling, radical clock, and transient absorption...
