Abstract Most of the deformation associated with seismic cycle in subduction zones occurs offshore and has been therefore difficult to quantify direct observations at millennial timescales. Here we study an active splay‐fault system Arauco Bay area off south central Chile. We describe hitherto unrecognized drowned shorelines using high‐resolution multibeam bathymetry, geomorphic, sedimentologic, paleontologic uplift rates a Landscape Evolution Model. Along margin‐normal profile, are 1.3 m/ka...
Abstract Early Cretaceous ichthyosaurs were globally distributed pelagic marine reptiles, but many remains are fragmentary, creating a Northern Hemisphere diversity bias. A rich Hauterivian locality near the Tyndall Glacier inside Torres del Paine National Park in southern Chile yields important new data regarding ichthyosaurian along Pacific margin of Gondwana. These will contribute to clarifying questions ichthyosaur taxonomy and palaeobiogeographical relationships between Gondwanan groups...
The ghost shrimp Turbiocheir minutospinata has so far been known only from its holotype the Eocene/Oligocene rocks of Río Turbio, Patagonia in Argentina. Recently, additional specimen found Eocene strata Boca Lebu Formation Arauco Basin, Chile. New material adds information on morphology chelipeds and allows evaluation degree heterochely studied shrimp. Moreover, comparison with extant taxa synonymisation Anacalliax. With this act fossil record Anacalliax is extended into early Eocene....
