We present snap-n-eat, a mobile food recognition system. The system can recognize and estimate the calorific nutrition content of foods automatically without any user intervention. To identify items, simply snaps photo plate. detects salient region, crops its image, subtracts background accordingly. Hierarchical segmentation is performed to segment image into regions. then extract features at different locations scales classify these regions kinds using linear support vector machine...

Lignin–carbohydrate complexes (LCCs), a significant component of plant cell walls, have been found to bear biological functionality as antioxidants in food and immunostimulants for living cell. In this work, lignin-rich carbohydrate-rich LCCs preparations were isolated from bamboo residues (bamboo green yellow). Each preparation was characterized by chemical composition linkage types quantities high performance anion exchange chromatography (HPAEC) NMR technologies (quantitative 13C 2D-HSQC...

Lignosulfonate (LG), a water-soluble polymer from sulfite pulping process of lignocellulosic biomass, has been commercially applied as admixture for concrete. In this work, lignosulfonates were produced alkaline lignin (AL) and enzymatic hydrolysis residue (EHR) by sulfomethylation these water reducers concrete then evaluated. Results showed that 94.9% 68.9% lignins in AL EHR could be sulfonated under optimum conditions, respectively. The sulfonic groups (AL-LG) (EHR-LG) 1.6 mmol/g 1.0...

Abstract Lamellar graphene oxide (GO) membranes have gained substantial interest for molecular separation processes. However, GO shown inefficient performance levels due to their possession of sufficient functional groups that lead swelling under applied hydraulic pressure. Herein, we demonstrate a highly stable and ultrafast filtrable oxide-boron nitride (GOBN) hybrid membrane by incorporating boron (BN) nanosheets into restrict provide efficient pressure characteristics. Two-dimensional nanomaterial-based membranes have earned broad attention because of their excellent capability separation performance in a mixture that can challenge the conventional membrane materials utilized organic solvent nanofiltration (OSN) field. Boron nitride (BN) nanosheet displayed superb stability and ability aqueous solutions compared to widely researched analogous graphene-based membranes; nevertheless, concentration polarization dye pollutants fades eclipses potential adoption...

Abstract. Estimates of aviation effective radiative forcing (ERF) indicate that contrail cirrus is currently its largest contributor, although with a substantial associated uncertainty ∼ 70 %. Here, we implement the parameterisation developed for Community Atmosphere Model (CAM) in UK Met Office Unified (UM), allowing us to compare, first time, impact key features host climate model on ERF. We find differences background humidity between models result UM-simulated fractions being 2 3 times...

Aviation currently contributes approximately 3.5% to the anthropogenic effective radiative forcing (ERF) on climate, with contrail cirrus being largest contributor, accounting for twice impact of aviation CO2 emissions. However, latest assessment aviation's climate highlights significant uncertainty around 70% in ERF estimates due process-related uncertainties. Recent research also critical role cloud microphysical schemes representing and optical properties models. In this study, we...

Contrail cirrus is estimated to be responsible for the largest and most uncertain aviation effective radiative forcing (ERF) term. With sector’s commitment reach net-zero emissions by 2050, there a stringent need better understand constrain this A key challenge in reducing its associated uncertainty comes from very limited number of climate models able simulate contrail cirrus. In work we present results two new parameterisations UK Met Office Unified Model (UM), one based on...

Simulating urban morphology with location attributes is a challenging task in science. Recent studies have shown that Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) the potential to shed light on this task. However, existing GAN-based models are limited by sparsity of data and instability model training, hampering their applications. Here, we propose GAN framework geographical knowledge, namely Metropolitan (MetroGAN), for simulation. We incorporate progressive growing structure learn hierarchical...
