Abstract We find that approximately one third (29%) of independent inventors continue to spend money and 51% time on projects after receiving highly diagnostic advice cease effort. Using survey data from actual inventors, this paper studies the role overconfidence, optimism, sunk‐cost bias in these decisions. are more overconfident optimistic than general population. also optimism past expenditures increased perseverance being told quit, while overconfidence judgment ability had no effect....
Using data from 441 call center employees at a large North American financial services firm, we studied how the frequency of thinking about an incentive available for performance led to increased output on important metric. We find that people think more frequently noncash tangible incentives (merchandise and travel) than cash as thought increases, increases. This leads larger boost compared equal purchasing power. These results show additional benefit use help answer question regarding...
This case presents challenges facing a student–run venture accelerator at major university in the United States. The model has attracted much media attention for its uniqueness, but it also raised questions about sustainability. Signals from new dean, not invested student model, are putting pressure on student–chief executive officer to change course—to tweak and fight future or cave pressures “professionalize” let students take backseat management. highlights entrepreneurial leadership of...
This paper explores the role of 'affective attachment' (powerful, emotional attachment) to one's ideas as a source bias in market entry decisions concerning, but not limited to, technological initiatives. We investigated effects such attachment on: evaluations new and idea developers' desire retain control over commercialization these ideas. Our results indicate that entrepreneurs who are experiencing strong affective their more willing accept poorer financial terms, than might be otherwise...
Abstract African engineering students' academic prospects may be limited by stereotype threat and rote memorization (Beem, 2022). Project-based learning can present as causality to increasing these self-efficacy 2021). Students are likely experiencing multiple significant changes in the first year of their university journey, perhaps beyond self-efficacy. For example, they nurturing skill thoughtful planned decision-making leveraging interest passion driving them success. This research paper...

Contribution: Online learning during the pandemic led to reports of losses, with physical isolation as one contributing factor. Education on African continent faced additional challenges due weaker supply chains and connectivity. Here, it is shown that even if students participate in a project-based design course online, from their homes across Africa, nonetheless possible for this pedagogy increase self-efficacy build. Background: A false narrative exists about innovation needing be...
The cursory views of several practitioners and academicians have suggested that designbased approaches inherent features increase their chances impacting entrepreneurial intention (EI) self-efficacy (ESE).However, minimal empirical enquiries exist to affirm this viewpoint. The current study's overarching objective is assess the influence learning (EL) acquired via a design-based education (EE) on EI ESE.We conducted quantitative cross-sectional analysis 207 participants' responses.Using...
Entrepreneurs’ cognitions may affect their investment decisions and those of others they ask support from. We study the link between two cognitive factors (planning fallacy optimism) outside sources funds (family, friends, angel investors, venture capitalists, grantors etc.), as relates to commercialization inventions. found planning influence investments others. These effects were also limited close networks did not extend arm’s length investors. Optimism seems turn off, especially on be...
Abstract Experiential processing of events has been argued to result in affective reactions –emotions and feelings – which turn influence judgment decision states. Research also suggests that specific experiential may carry action-oriented appraisal dimensions act as implicit perceptual lenses for interpreting subsequent experiences. However, founders with different founding goals self-select into trajectories provide them experiences therefore reactions. Therefore, we develop a conceptual...
In this study, we employ agency theory and stakeholder theory, both of which focus on the governance external sources funding, albeit from very different perspectives, to understand impact funder monitoring by private public firm performance. Since SMEs are typically capital-constrained or funding-constrained, understanding funding performance is essential. We studied direct moderated effects associated with based our argumentation for hypotheses theory. Using a sample 203 SMEs, found...
Resent research in entrepreneurship argues that the experiential processing of events impacts affect, which turn influence judgment and decision states. However, founders with different founding goals may self-select into trajectories provide them experiences therefore affective reactions. Further, also suggests carry action-oriented appraisal dimensions act as implicit perceptual lenses for interpreting subsequent experiences. Hence, drawing from both experience cognitive streams, we...
We study the effects of three cognitive biases by entrepreneur on obtaining funding. find planning fallacy to increase funding amounts, whereas optimism and overconfidence have no amounts from others. Further, positively impacts probability strong-tie (inside) investments but negatively weak-tie (outside) investments. Mediation analyses further show that venture performance through both self other-investor amounts. Our findings are not consistent with pecking order theory informal finance,...
