We describe a case of recurrent hypoglycemia apparently caused by secretion insulin-like growth factor II (IGF-II) leiomyosarcoma. A 67-year-old woman presented with severe and large mass in the thorax. During hypoglycemia, plasma cortisol was elevated, but insulin hormone levels were low. After resection leiomyosarcoma, resolved. an eight-year remission, both tumor symptomatic recurred. second operation removed, relief patient's hypoglycemia. The contained high concentrations IGF-II mRNA...
Previous measurements of somatomedins (Sms) and insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) in maternal fetal serum have yielded contradictory results. We have, therefore, measured maternal, fetal, neonatal rat with two highly specific assays: 1) IGF-I/Sm-C RiA 2) a IGF-II/rat placental membrane radioreceptor assay (RRA). In addition, we made less multiplication-stimulating activity (MSA)-rat RRA. To avoid possible serious artifacts created by Sm-binding proteins, preliminary acid-ethanol extraction...
We reported that serum and tumor from a hypoglycemic patient with fibrosarcoma contained insulin-like growth factor II (IGF-II), mostly in large molecular form designated "big IGF-II." now describe two additional patients non-islet-cell hypoglycemia (NICTH) whose sera big IGF-II. Removal of the eliminated most IGF-II patients. Because specific IGF-binding proteins modify bioactivity IGFs, sizes endogenous protein complexes were determined after neutral gel filtration through Saphadex G-200....
A radioreceptor assay for insulin-like growth factor II (IGF-II) is described in which [125I]IGF-II bound by rat placental membranes. IGF-I and other insulin-related peptides have less than 1% of the potency IGF-II displacing [125I]-IGF-II. extracted from its serum binding protein with a simple acid-ethanol step. After neutralization Tris base, extract introduced directly into assay. Results are expressed terms reference an assigned 1 U⁄ml. By this method, normal adults, 20–69 yr age, had...
Computer-assisted navigation (CAN) and robotic assistance (RA) for total knee arthroplasty (TKA) are gaining in popularity. The purpose of this study is to update the literature on United States technology-assisted TKA trends national utilization, regional 90-day complication rates requiring readmission.
Von Willebrand factor (VWF) dimerizes through C-terminal CK domains, and VWF dimers assemble into multimers in the Golgi by forming intersubunit disulfide bonds between D3 domains. This unusual oxidoreductase reaction requires propeptide (domains D1D2), which acts as an endogenous pH-dependent chaperone. The cysteines involved multimer assembly were characterized using a construct that encodes N-terminal D1D2D'D3 Modification with thiol-specific reagents demonstrated secreted D'D3 monomer...
It is known that the somatomedins exist in human serum complexed to specific binding proteins. The existence of unbound has never unequivocally been demonstrated. We have characterized distribution insulin-like growth factor (IGF) I different fractions after gel filtration through Sephadex G-200 neutral buffer. IGF-I was measured by RIA acid extraction. Seventy-two percent associated with large complexes an estimated size about 150,000 daltons and 25% smaller 50,000 daltons. No detected....
Background: An intra-articular infection after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction (ACLR) is a rare complication but one with potentially devastating consequences. The nature of this raises difficulties in detecting risk factors associated it and worse outcomes has occurred. Purpose: To (1) evaluate the association between an ACLR potential large single-center cohort patients who had undergone (2) assess ACL graft retention versus removal. Study Design: Case-control study; Level...
Abstract Different stimuli can induce innate immune memory to improve pathogen defense or worsen cardiometabolic disease. However, it is less clear if the same both protective and detrimental effects of memory. Weight loss following high fat diet feeding induces in adipose macrophages that correlates with worsened diabetes risk after weight regain. Here, we investigated effect gain on macrophage infection outcomes systemic Staphylococcus aureus C57Bl/6 J male mice. Lean controls remained...
We have studied insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) and IGF-binding proteins released by human fibroblasts. Conditioned medium was obtained after incubation of 2 × 106 cells in ml serum-free for 72 h. IGF binding protein identified aliquots conditioned at 4 C 16 h with [125]IGF II charcoal separation. After gel filtration neutral phosphate buffer through Sephadex G-150, the activity eluted an apparent size greater than 100,000 daltons. Bio-Rad P-100 1 m acetic acid, had a molecular about...
Pregnant female rats were hypophysectomized on the 14th day of pregnancy without fetal loss or premature delivery. Completeness hypophysectomy was confirmed by measurements serum growth hormone and prolactin. Serum somatomedin activities measured rat costal cartilage in vitro assay using a human standard. In this activity normal is about four times that serum. Forty-eight hours after maintained at 3.9 + 1.0 units/ml. At time operation nonpregnant would be virtually undetectable. Somatomedin...
The role of insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) in fetal development has been the subject much speculation. We undertook studies maternal and IGF I II guinea pig because long gestation period greater size fetuses permitted blood sampling over a longer maturation than is possible rat. Acid gel filrates serum were prepared, was measured by RIA; rat placental membrane radioreceptor assay. Fetal levels lower from 33rd day estimated to term. 49th not significantly different those [1597 ± 377 (se)...

INTRODUCTION The origins of pre-operative fasting guidelines can be traced back to 1883, when Lister said, 'While it is desirable that there should no solid matter in the stomach chloroform administered, will found very salutary give a cup tea or beef-tea about two hours previously'.[1] In 1946, Mendelson discovered vomiting during labour and obstetric anaesthesia led respiratory distress due pulmonary aspiration gastric hydrochloric acid.[2] Following this highly publicized discovery,...
