In this paper, a pulse-overlapping super-Nyquist (Pol-SN) wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) scheme is proposed to improve spectral efficiency of coherent optical transmission. scheme, two tributaries polarization-division quadrature phase-shift keying (PDM-QPSK) signals at the transmitter, carried by same wavelength, are grouped together allow for pulse overlapping in time domain. Then, several wavelength channels packed tightly frequency domain form WDM system. At receiver, three...

We compare the performance of sub-symbol-rate sampling for polarization-division-multiplexed quadrature-phase-shift-keying (PDM-QPSK) signals in super-Nyquist wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) system by using quadrature duo-binary (QDB) and four-level poly-binary (4PB) shaping together with maximum likelihood sequence estimation (MLSE). PDM-16QAM is adopted simulation to be compared PDM-QPSK. The numerical simulations show that, a software defined communication system, level number...

Accurate quality of transmission (QoT) estimation has become an essential function for elastic optical networks. This paper investigates the influence inter-channel nonlinear interference (ICNI) on QoT under flexible network configurations. Based modulation format dependent nonlinearity calculation, interfering channel format, spacing, and power is compared analyzed. Numerical results show Gaussian noise (GN) model- based can underestimate Q factor by 3.6 dB ICNI limited systems.
