Warming from climate change is expected to reduce body size of endotherms, but studies temperate systems have produced equivocal results. Over four decades, we collected morphometric data on a nonmigratory understory bird community within Amazonian primary rainforest that experiencing increasingly extreme climate. All 77 species showed lower mean mass since the early 1980s—nearly half with 95% confidence. A third concomitantly increased wing length, driving decrease in mass:wing ratio for...
Lasiurus egregius (Peters, 1870) is a rare Neotropical vespertilionid bat and virtually no data on its ecology echolocation calls are currently available. We report the capture of four individuals in Central Amazon, representing first record for region significant (> 800 km) expansion species' known range. Echolocation calls, recorded time under natural conditions, were 1.5–8 ms duration, characterized by high mean bandwidth (18 kHz) frequency maximum energy 30 kHz.
While taxonomic and biogeographical biases are often acknowledged, those for certain biological responses species traits routinely overlooked, generating major gaps in knowledge conservation of biodiversity. Biases research on birds ‒ an over‐sampled, diverse vertebrate class may be readily detectable, wetlands important species‐rich ecosystems which to identify birds. The Pantanal, one the world’s largest wetlands, is globally relevant bird conservation. In this wetland, we determined...
Abstract Habitat loss and fragmentation are the primary causes of global population decline amphibians reptiles. In Brazil, that hosts an extraordinary herpetofaunal richness, reptiles clearly undersampled among vertebrate groups in research. This bias may underestimate effects on herpetofauna this megadiverse country. Here, we conducted exhaustive literature review to evaluate patterns Brazil. We analyzed 55 papers between 1994 2020, comprising 350 cases effect (positive, negative, or...

Birds participate in different types of multi-species groups (e.g., mixed-species flocks) occurring from temperate to tropical forest and also savannas. However, the effects seasonal variation flocking dynamics formation savannas, especially seasonally flooded wetlands, have received comparatively less attention than forests ecosystems. Because can reflect specific aspects bird community temporal dynamics), present study aims describe structure, organization, flocks Pantanal, world’s largest...
