Abstract An updated inventory of Brazilian seed plants is presented and offers important insights into the country's biodiversity. This work started in 2010, with publication Plants Fungi Catalogue, has been since by more than 430 specialists working online. Brazil home to 32,086 native Angiosperms 23 Gymnosperms, showing an increase 3% its species richness relation 2010. The Amazon Rainforest richest biome for while Atlantic one Angiosperms. There was a considerable increment number...
Abstract Malvales is a diverse order of flowering plants, economically and ecologically relevant, it known for its broad morphological variability. Recent phylogenomic studies have revealed complex evolutionary history the order, including localised phylogenetic discordances among nuclear loci. However, since late 1990s, classification has largely been neglected. This study aims to address this gap by revisiting Malvales, with focus on largest family, Malvaceae. By integrating datasets, our...
Abstract We present a taxonomic revision of Luehea from the state Rio de Janeiro, an important area phytogeographic domain Brazilian Atlantic Forest in Southeast region. Here, eight taxa that occur submontane or montane ombrophilous forests are recognized, including restinga vegetation and/or riparian gallery forests: L. candicans var. candicans, gracilis, conwentzii, divaricata, macrophylla, ochrophylla, paniculata, and speciosa. For each species, description, synonymy, distribution...
Here we describe a new species from the Brazilian Amazon, Mollia trimera. This is mainly distinguished other of genus by flowers with trimerous external whorls (calyx, corolla, and outer androecium), rare morphological characteristic in Malvaceae. Morphological description, taxonomic comments, illustrations, distribution, habitat, preliminary conservation status, phenology are provided.
Abstract We describe here the new species Luehea peruzziana Gerace, Bovini & Baumgratz, endemic to Brazilian Atlantic Forest, and restricted state of Espírito Santo, in south-eastern region country. Morphological description, illustration with details vegetative reproductive structures, comments on taxonomy, distribution, phenology, conservation status are provided. Furthermore, given morphological similarity L. ochrophylla Mart., a comparative analysis between these two taxa is reported.
Abstract The description of secretory structures in Malvaceae is controversial, and results conflicting interpretations. Amid interpretations, therefore, the present study aims to describe ontogeny diversity histochemistry Ceiba, emphasizing leaves C. erianthos, jasminodora, pentandra, speciosa. All analyzed species mucilaginous, crystalliferous, phenolic idioblasts. These are randomly arranged mesophyll, epidermis, petiole cortex, parenchymatic tissue midrib. However, jasminodora only found...
A comprehensive taxonomic revision of the genus Wissadula (Malvoideae, Malvaceae) in Brazil is presented. Through field surveys, examination specimens maintained 39 herbaria, and a review literature, 19 species are recognized. The main diagnostic characteristics used to distinguish amonth leaf shape, trichome type on branches leaves, shape number mericarps. mainly differs from other genera Malvoideae having mericarp constriction. key, detailed descriptions, illustrations, geographic data...
The vascular flora was inventoried of the Cagarras Islands Natural Monument (CINM) located offshore Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and a total 171 species were encountered. families with greatest richnesses were: Asteraceae (12 spp.), Myrtaceae (12), Fabaceae (11), Bromeliaceae (7), Cactaceae (6), Euphorbiaceae Poaceae (6). regional vegetation similar to restinga, although high concentrations guano from nesting marine birds affected diversity on two islands. threatened Gymanthes nervosa Müll. The "Serra da Concórdia" is part of the Atlantic Forest phytogeographical domain in Brazilian state Rio de Janeiro and it has a predominant phytophysiognomy Semideciduous Seasonal Forest. This region underwent intense habitat loss fragmentation during 19 th century, due to coffee plantations later pastures. With decline these activities, areas were abandoned, triggering secondary succession. In 2002, "Parque Estadual Serra was established this preserve remaining forest fragments. updated...
The nomenclature of the species Luehea macrophylla Pohl is reinstated in this study, drawing on distinctive features such as epicalyx bracts, petals, ovary characteristics, and novel diagnostic fruit characters. information, including new synonyms distributional data, complemented by examination relevant specimens, provided. Furthermore, a comparative analysis morphology presented, offering insights into distinguishing characteristics L. when compared to its congeners.
Fruit morphology of the tribe Malveae has been discussed since first taxonomic classifications Malvaceae. The fruits are schizocarps, with some genera possessing an endoglossum. Besides morphological variation in endoglossum, other differences include number seeds per locule and ornamentation exocarp. An in-depth study fruit is essential to gain insight into relationships among taxa tribe. Therefore, present aimed describe Malveae, including micromorphology, endoglossum structure arrangement...
Abstract We present a taxonomic treatment of the Malvaceae from Serra do Lenheiro, montane range in municipality São João del-Rei, Minas Gerais, Brazil, order to contribute knowledge this family and state’s flora. Eleven genera twenty-nine species were recorded. Sida, Pavonia Peltaea are richest genera. Among recorded species, nine considered as ruderal ten endemic Brazil. Three have del-Rei type-locality. Analytic keys, morphological descriptions, photographic plates comments about treated...
