Abstract An updated inventory of Brazilian seed plants is presented and offers important insights into the country's biodiversity. This work started in 2010, with publication Plants Fungi Catalogue, has been since by more than 430 specialists working online. Brazil home to 32,086 native Angiosperms 23 Gymnosperms, showing an increase 3% its species richness relation 2010. The Amazon Rainforest richest biome for while Atlantic one Angiosperms. There was a considerable increment number...
Salacia juradoi (Celastraceae), a new species of tree from the forest remnants Guayaquil in coastal Ecuador, is here described and illustrated, affinities with closely morphologically related taxa commented. The conservation status assessed as Endangered.
Abstract Accurate species delimitation is necessary to estimate diversity. However, remains challenging in the poorly studied Coccoloba genus northern Andes. gracilis and C. ruiziana are endemic related inhabiting dry seasonal tropical forest of Amotape–Huancabamba zone Ecuador Peru. The identity widely recognized. some information about missing its has not been thoroughly checked by previous authors. We used morphological, phylogenetic, ecological data a robust methodological approach...
Three new species of trees Lecythidaceae are described for Colombia and Ecuador, Grias capparidastroides from the lowlands Cauca Department on Pacific coast Colombia, G. densiflora Antioquia in northwestern cryptica Esmeraldas Province Ecuador. The formally illustrated, their relationships with morphologically similar discussed.
Dracontium fuscopunctatum, a new species of Araceae—Lasioideae—Dracontieae from the lower montane forest at eastern Andean slopes, in province Morona Santiago, southeastern Ecuador, is here described and illustrated. It characterized by tubercles produced on top tubers within depression with thickened raised-margins. The also leaf blades veins sulcate scattered tufts glandular trichomes adaxially, prominent black glands abaxially, inflorescence large spathe that has punctuations to short...
The new combination Ceratostema gualaquizaensis var. lucida (Ericaceae: Vaccinieae) from southeastern Ecuador is presented here; and the status of C. portillae A. Doucette & H. Medina guachizacae Doucette, Medina, J. Portilla updated. A key to complex provided.
This study investigates the phytochemical, genetic, and antioxidant properties of Psidium guineense , a species native to tropical dry forests Ecuador. Leaves were collected, preserved in recognized herbaria, subjected Soxhlet extraction using polar non-polar solvents. Phytochemical screening revealed presence secondary metabolites, while GC-MS analysis detected chemical compounds extracts. Antioxidant assays demonstrated high phenolic (54.34 ± 0.49 mg GAE/g) flavonoid (6.43 0.38 QE/g)...
Two new species of neotropical Lecythidaceae from western Ecuador are formally described: Scottmoria austroccidentalis montane Andean forests in the El Oro Province, southwestern Ecuador, and S. petalocostata slopes Carchi northwestern Ecuador. Also, six combinations presented, which were transferred Eschweilera to Scottmoria: beebei (Pittier ex S.A. Mori) Prance, bogotensis (R. Knuth) Cornejo & garagarae (Pittier) integricalyx (S.A. microcalyx Prance Cornejo, venezuelica Prance. The...
This study presents a comprehensive revision and evaluation of all species Passiflora subgenus Astrophea found in Ecuador, with focus on several key findings. The distribution P. putumayensis has been closely examined, revealing its restriction to northern Ecuador through comparison type material from the Putumayo, Colombia. Additionally, three new exhibiting an arborescent free-standing habit have identified are here described illustrated under proposed names dendroidea, kyathantha...
Abstract We resurrect Capparidastrum (Capparaceae), a neotropical genus traditionally included in Capparis s.l., that comprises three subgenera: Subgen. (two spp.), Pulviniglans subgen. nov. (11 and Pachycarpum spp.). transfer the following species from s.l. to Capparidastrum: C. frondosum comb. nov., adding it solum previously transferred by us; we place of four Hutchinson accept (C. macrophyllum, petiolare, sprucei), plus eight s.l.: bonifazianum coimbranum cuatrecasanum discolor humile...
A revision of the American species genus Crateva (Capparaceae) recognizes four species: (1) C. palmeri, a CentralAmerican with short, stubby, pubescent inflorescences distinguished by furfuraceous trichomes, leaflets sessile or short petiolules to 4 mm, and axis infructescences, 1–6 cm. Unpublished isotypes, local names, uses palmeri are cited herein; (2) widespread glabrous tapia, ranging form Mexico Argentina Lesser Antilles. Its variable floral morphology is discussed, names also reported...
Three genera are separated here from the South American Capparis s.l. (Capparaceae): (1) Sarcotoxicum, a new monospecific genus restricted to Bolivia, Paraguay, and northern Argentina, composed of Sarcotoxicum salicifolium comb. nov.; (2) Neocalyptrocalyx is validated as seven species, with following five species herewith transferred s.l.: eichleriana nov., N. grandipetala leprieurii maroniensis muco sixth longifolium Colicodendron; and, (3) Mesocapparis stat. scandent- shrubby endemic...
Nine South American species are transferred from Capparis s.l. to the genera Cynophalla and Calanthea declinata comb. nov., C. ecuadorica guayaquilensis heterophylla mattogrossensis polyantha retusa tarapotensis stenosepala nov.
Capparis daknongensis D.T. Sy, G.C. Tucker, Cornejo & Joongku Lee, a new species of Capparaceae from Dak Nong province, Vietnam, is described and illustrated. It morphologically similar to C. khuamak, but differs in having pruinose twigs, fewer stamens, longer filaments gynophore, different fruit morphology.
Following recent mimosoid phylogenetic and phylogenomic studies demonstrating the non-monophyly of genus Albizia , we present a new molecular phylogeny focused on neotropical species in genus, with much denser taxon sampling than previous studies. Our aims were to test monophyly section Arthrosamanea, resolve relationships, gain insights into evolution fruit morphology. We perform Bayesian analysis sequences nuclear internal external transcribed spacer regions trace dehiscence lomentiform...
Hispaniolanthus (Capparaceae), a new genus segregated from Capparis, is described and illustrated. It characterized by short simple hairs, minute stipules, spiral phyllotaxy, juvenile individuals with linear leaf blades, mature their young leaves conduplicate, flowers axillary subterminal, solitary and/or rarely paired, without peduncles on remarkably long-pedicels. The calyx decussate closed aestivation, bearing sepals similar in size to that of the petals, four erect divergent nectary...
