Salacia juradoi (Celastraceae), a new species of tree from the forest remnants Guayaquil in coastal Ecuador, is here described and illustrated, affinities with closely morphologically related taxa commented. The conservation status assessed as Endangered.
Analysis of 105 scats the maned wolf ( Chrysocyon brachyurus ) collected in central Brazil yielded 304 occurrences food items which fruits Solanum lycocarpum , rodents, and birds accounted for 61.5%. By analysis minimum number individual animals, rodents were 75% a total 156 prey. On other hand, S. armadillos Dasypus spp.) bulk estimated biomass consumption, yielding 63.7% 73.5 kg. Rodents mostly captured during dry season, while miscellaneous consumed wet season. The consumption was...
Abstract Cloud forests usually occur at high-altitude sites of the Atlantic Forest in eastern Brazil, albeit scattered and fragmented along mountain tops. In this habitat, vegetation occurs low-temperature conditions is provided by additional water sources that arise due to horizontal precipitation frequent fogs. Together with more considerable air movement higher luminosity, these factors are conditioning for singular floras high elevations, mainly vascular epiphytes, which macro...
Ethanol extract from Arrabidaea triplinervia leaves showed in vitro activity (ED100 5.0 mg/ml) against trypomastigotes of Trypanosoma cruzi, the etiologic agent Chagas; disease. Bioactivity-directed fractionation this led to isolation ursolic and oleanolic acids as trypanocidal compounds besides pomolic acid (not tested) alpinetine (inactive). A series natural synthetic derivatives was simultaneously assayed for structure relationships (SAR) studies. Ursolic 0.4 four times more active than...
Abstract Maytenus s. l. (including Gymnosporia) is a morphologically diverse genus of about 300 species that widely distributed in the tropics and subtropics both Old New Worlds. Its delimitation has been extensively debated despite segregation Gymnosporia, remains heterogeneous, polyphyletic group. To delimit natural segregate genera we increased taxon sampling generated sequences from two nuclear gene regions (ITS 26S rDNA) plastid loci (matK trnL-F) to analyze together with morphological...
Maytenus species are distributed in the New World from Argentina to U. S. A. The genus delimitation has been controversial, especially relation inclusion of Gymnosporia. treated a broad sense such that it was considered widely tropics and subtropics worldwide. Even its current restricted circumscription, remains paraphyletic with Fraunhofera Plenckia nested within it. We increased taxon sampling relative previous studies sampled representing greatest morphological diversity throughout...
Abstract Ethanol extracts of Clytostoma ramentaceum Bur. & K. Schum and Mansoa hirsuta DC. (Bignoniaceae) inhibited the growth standardized cultures Aspergillus niger Fusarium oxysporum , at concentrations 400 µg 500 µg, in bioautographic assays. The activity‐guided fractionation C. extract afforded ursolic acid 2‐(3′,4′‐dihydroxyphenyl) ethanol, both active against test fungi (100 µg). These compounds are reported for first time were not detected M. extract, according to HPLC analysis....
Abstract The phylogeny of Celastraceae subfamily Salacioideae (ca. 255 species in the Old and New World tropics) tribe Lophopetaleae 29 southern Asia Austral-Pacific) was inferred using morphological characters together with plastid (matK, trnL-F) nuclear (ITS 26S rDNA) genes. Brassiantha, a monotypic genus endemic to Guinea, is be more closely related clade Dicarpellum (New Caledonia) Hypsophila (Queensland, Australia) than it Hippocrateoideae or Salacioideae. This unambiguously supported...
