Biohythane production from co-digestion of palm oil mill effluent (POME) with empty fruit bunches (EFB) and decanter cake (DC) by two-stage solid state anaerobic digestion process was investigated. The first stage, thermophilic hydrogen fermentation POME DC at 10, 30, 50 70% in has yield 16, 14, 3 1 ml H2/gVS, respectively. Co-digestion 10% gave the best 16 H2/gVS 1.4 m3/ton mixed waste. EFB further converted to methane second stage. withn10% 391 mlCH4/gVS 240 mlCH4/gVS. content biogas...

Empty fruit bunches (EFB), palm oil mill effluent (POME), sewage chemical sludge and biological were evaluated for methane production under liquid-state anaerobic digestion (L-AD) solid-state (SS-AD). The highest yield of 456 mL CH4 g-1VS was achieved from co-digestion POME with at a ratio 99:1 L-AD. 18 EFB 95:5 SS-AD. An increasing content 6-42% in both AD systems resulted decreasing yield. L-AD system has 2-3 times higher volumetric productivity than the SS-AD system. electricity 1-tonne...

Anaerobic digestion (AD) is a suitable process for treating high moisture MSW with biogas and biofertilizer production. However, the low stability of AD performance methane production results from due to fast acidify carbohydrate fermentation. The effects organic loading incineration fly ash addition as pH adjustment on in single-stage two-stage processes were investigated.Suitable initial was 17 gVS L-1 at (IFA) 0.5% yield 287 mL CH4 g-1 VS. Suitable 43 IFA 1% hydrogen 47.4 ml H2 VS 363 VS,...

Abstract BACKGROUND In the unfavorable conditions of anaerobic digestion systems, attached or immobilized microbial communities used as biofilm are more resistant to being washed out than suspended biomass. The formation was determined by carrier characteristics, considering their physicochemical properties and high availability. This study presented an approach for improving use polyurethane (PU) foam a methanogenic consortium. RESULTS effect powdered activated carbon (PAC) on reactor...

Full-scale biogas production from palm oil mill effluent (POME) was inhibited by low pH and highly volatile fatty acid (VFA) accumulation. Three strategies were investigated for recovering the anaerobic digestion (AD) imbalance on production, namely dilution method (tap water vs. effluent), adjustment (NaOH, NaHCO3, Ca(OH)2, ash), bioaugmentation (active methane-producing sludge) method. The economical feasible selected validated in a full-scale application. The sludge reactor could be...

A high concentration of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) released from pig farming is one the major environmental problems affecting surrounding communities. In modern farms, bioscrubber used to eliminate H2S, which found be driven mainly by sulfur-oxidizing bacteria (SOB) community. Therefore, in this study, molecular biology techniques such as next-generation sequencing (NGS) and DNA microarray are proposed study linkage between enzyme activity abundance SOB The starting sludge (SFP1) recirculating...

A practical approach for improving the polyurethane (PU) foam as a biofilm carrier methanogenic consortium was conducted in this study by supplementation of powdered activated carbon (PAC). The effect PAC significant during early reactor operation (day 0-30) contributing to high averages methane production and yield. Remarkable results were also shown development on PU PAC-supplemented (R2) indicated faster higher total biomass attachment compared control (R1). Analysis morphology revealed...
