Obesity is an important risk factor for many chronic diseases. Mobile health interventions such as smartphone apps can potentially provide a convenient low-cost addition to other obesity reduction strategies. This study aimed estimate the impacts on quality-adjusted life-years (QALYs) gained and system costs over remainder of life span New Zealand population (N=4.4 million) app promotion intervention in 1 calendar year (2011) using currently available weight loss. The was national mass media...

We describe a fatal case of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in an adult with onset 22 days after second dose mRNA coronavirus disease vaccine. Serologic and clinical findings indicated severe acute respiratory 2 infection occurred before vaccination. The immunopathology this syndrome, regardless vaccination status, remains poorly understood.

Background Mass media campaigns and quitlines are both important distinct components of tobacco control programmes around the world. But when used as an integrated package, effectiveness cost-effectiveness not well described. We therefore aimed to estimate health gain, equity impacts cost–utility package a national quitline service its promotion in mass media. Methods adapted established Markov multistate life-table macro-simulation model. The population was all New Zealand adults 2011....

The World Health Organization recommends all countries consider screening for H. pylori to prevent gastric cancer. We therefore aimed estimate the cost-effectiveness of a serology-based program in New Zealand, country that includes population groups with relatively high cancer rates. A Markov model was developed using life-tables and morbidity data from national burden disease study. modelled reduced incidence non-cardia attributable pylori, if infection identified by serology screening,...

: Mulberry (Genus: Morus, Family: Moraceae) is a flowering plant utilized in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Ayurveda for its ethnobotanical uses fever, liver protection, diuretics, management of appropriate blood pressure, improving eyesight, cardiovascular disease. Being multiple prospects, it used to prevent kidney diseases, hair problems, weakness, fatigue, constipation, disorders, anemia, premature greying hair, among few other ailments. We aimed to estimate the maximum intervention cost (EMIC) a society could invest in life-saving at different ages while remaining cost-effective according user-specified cost-effectiveness threshold.New Zealand (NZ) was used as case study, and health system perspective taken. Data from NZ life tables morbidity data burden of disease study were health-adjusted life-years (HALYs) gained by intervention. Health costs estimated national database all publicly funded events (hospitalizations,...

There is momentum internationally to improve coordination of complex care pathways. Robust evaluations such interventions are scarce. This paper evaluates the cost-utility cancer coordinators for stage III colon patients, who generally require surgery followed by chemotherapy. We compared a hospital-based nurse coordinator (CCC) with 'business-as-usual' (no dedicated service) in patients New Zealand. A discrete event microsimulation model was constructed estimate quality-adjusted life-years...

Background The anti–human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) monoclonal antibody trastuzumab improves outcomes in patients with node-positive HER2+ early breast cancer. Given trastuzumab's high cost, we aimed to estimate its cost-effectiveness by heterogeneity age and estrogen (ER) progesterone (PR) status, which has previously been unexplored, assist prioritisation. Methods Findings A cost-utility analysis was performed using a Markov macro-simulation model, lifetime horizon,...

Background There is some evidence that home safety assessment and modification (HSAM) effective in reducing falls older people. But there are various knowledge gaps, including around cost-effectiveness also the impacts at a health district-level. Single- and multiple-fraction external beam radiotherapy (SFX-EBRT MFX-EBRT) are palliative treatment options for localized metastatic bone pain. MFX is the preferred choice in many developed countries. Evidence shows little difference how effectively SFX reduce However, associated with higher retreatment (in one meta-analysis) pathological fracture rates. is, however, more time-consuming expensive. Abstract Background Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) rupture carries a high fatality rate. AAAs can be detected before by abdominal ultrasound imaging, allowing elective repair. Population-based screening for AAA in older men reduces AAA-related mortality about 40 per cent. The UK began an programme offering one-off scans to aged 65 years 2009. Sweden has similar programme. Currently, there is no New Zealand. This cost–utility analysis aimed assess the cost-effectiveness of UK-style Zealand...
