The photocatalytic properties of TiO2 are primarily determined by its crystallinity and crystalline phase ratios. To improve the TiO2, greater control over formation amorphous phases during synthesis is therefore required. In this study, we demonstrate how addition minute amounts three organic compounds (isopropanol, acetone acetic acid) hydrothermal treatment affects ratios: isopropanol or accelerates transition from anatase brookite to rutile, whereas acid inhibits transformation...
Abstract This study investigates the effects of alloying elements on microstructural evolution Al-rich Al–Mn–Cu–(Be) alloys during solidification, and subsequent heating annealing. The samples were characterised using scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, synchrotron diffraction, time-of-flight secondary-ion mass differential calorimetry. In ternary Al94Mn3Cu3 (at%) alloy, phases formed slower cooling (≈1 K s−1) can be predicted by known Al–Mn–Cu phase diagram....
Abstract An Al 94 Mn 2 Be Cu cast alloy was developed displaying increased quasicrystalline formation ability at moderate cooling rates. The as-cast microstructure consisted of a mainly icosahedral phase in the Al-matrix. remained stable during uniform heating to 580 °C and isothermal annealing 400 °C. Most preserved even after 24 h 500 For that reason, this presents promising basis for further development Al-alloys containing quasicrystals.
Quasicrystals form an additional state of matter to those crystalline and glassy. The atoms positions are ordered but with non-crystallographic rotational symmetry without three-dimensional periodicity (Shechtman, Blech et al. 1984). first icosahedral quasicrystal (i-phase) discovered in the Al-Mn system was metastable. It could be formed by rapid solidification, not during conventional casting, e.g. casting into metallic dies. Several ternary quaternary alloys based on were developed last...
