The synthesis of gold nanospheres via the reduction AuCl4- salt by sodium citrate has been revisited, with focus on mechanism particle growth. In stark contrast to widely accepted LaMer nucleation-growth model, initially formed nanoclusters about 5 nm diameter self-assemble form an extensive network nanowires. nanowires progressively increases in size, and at same time connected is fragmented into small segments before final spherical particles are formed. We put forward a modified...
High-quality, monodisperse PbS−Au1, PbS−Au4, and PbS−Aun nanostructures have been synthesized via a facile convenient solution chemistry approach. HRTEM images of these showed good selectivity gold deposition on the semiconductor in several spatially correlated directions. The formation regular can be explained by difference polarity crystal facets that led to selective growth metal surface. Owing their narrow size distribution intrinsic high-symmetry, resulting PbS−Au4 heterogeneous could...
A hybrid system of ZnO nanoparticles on multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) is fabricated by simply heating Zn-coated MWNTs a hot plate in air. Ultrafast optical switching and three-photon adsorption are observed from this system, the absorption coefficient can be readily adjusted changing Zn-coating thickness. These results provide opportunities for cost-effectively integrating with functional oxide future nanodevices.
Saturable and reverse saturable absorption at longitudinal surface plasmon resonance (SPR) in gold nanorods (Au NRs) have been observed using Z-scan transient techniques with femtosecond laser pulses. At lower excitation irradiances, the wavelength dispersion of has determined near mode SPR a recovery time to be few ten picoseconds on resonance. With higher occurs becomes dominant. The underlying mechanisms are discussed. Such reversible makes Au NRs an ideal candidate for optical limiting...
Highly nitrogen-doped carbon nanotube (${\mathrm{CN}}_{x}\mathrm{NT}$, $x=12\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{at.}\phantom{\rule{0.2em}{0ex}}%$) was synthesized by the pyrolysis of acetonitrile on Co-Mo catalysts. The electronic structures and chemical bondings ${\mathrm{CN}}_{x}\mathrm{NT}$ were studied using various spectroscopic techniques: Raman, photoelectron x-ray absorption spectroscopies. ultrafast pump-probe measurements exhibited a larger third-order susceptibility...
Titania–polymer nanohybrid thin films represent a new class of potential materials for optoelectronic applications. While most such lack control in crystallinity, we report this paper transparent nanohybrids titania-polymethyl methacrylate (TiO2–PMMA) having remarkably enhanced nanocrystallinity. Post-treatments with water vapor at relatively low temperatures were applied on these films, following situ sol–gel polymerization. They promoted rearrangement flexible Ti–O–Ti bonds leading to...
PMMA is one of the most versatile polymeric materials for applications in various technological areas including optics and electro-optics. While current electro-optics are limited by their linear optical behavior, we report here this paper unique nonlinear behavior nanohybrids consisting nanocrystalline TiO2 PMMA. Transparent thin films TiO2–PMMA nanohybrid on substrates were synthesized in-situ sol–gel polymerisation, assisted spin coating. Using titanium isoproproxide (Ti-iP) as starting...
With 780-nm, 250-fs laser pulses, ultrafast optical nonlinearity has been observed in a series of thin films containing poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)-TiO2 nanocomposites, which are synthesized by simple technique in-situ sol-gel/polymerization. The best figures merit found one the prepared with 60 wt % titanium isopropoxide. Transmission electron microscopy shows presence 5-nm-diameter particles film. recovery time ∼1.5 ps. These findings suggest strong potential PMMA-TiO2 nanocomposites...
Carbon nanoparticle colloids were prepared by Nd:YAG laser ablation of a carbon target immersed in water. The nanoparticles collected on substrates and analyzed with micro-Raman spectroscopy electron microscopy. Optical limiting properties the towards 532 nm wavelength characterized using nanosecond laser. A strong optical response was detected for C60 as reference at input fluence above 0.6 J/cm2. effects concentrations upon behavior also investigated. convenient method preparing based...
Good quality colloidal nanocrystals of metastable orthorhombic phase AgInS2 obtained by decomposing the single-precursor [(Ph3P)2AgIn(SCOPh)4] in a mixture dodecanethiol and oleic acid at 125–200 °C, exhibit significant third order non-linear optical properties.
The surface of TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) was modified by a coupling agent 2-(3,4-epoxycyclohexyl)ethyltrimethoxysilane to render them highly compatible with organic monomer mixtures avoiding aggregation. Such NPs were then chemically attached prepolymer. refractive index hybrid NPs−polymer increased dramatically in comparison that pure polymer, and it can be controlled adjusting the content NPs. Rayleigh scattering size-dependent increase content. When material prepared milling centrifuge...
Irradiance dependence of excitonic nonlinear absorption in Cadmium Sulfide (CdS) nanocrystals has been studied by using Z-scan method with nanosecond laser pulses. The wavelength also measured near the transition 1S(e)-1S3/2(h). We observe saturable absorption, which can be described a third-order and fifth-order process for both 3.0-nm-sized 2.3-nm-sized CdS nanocrystals. experimental results show that is greatly enhanced decreasing particle size. A two-level model utilized to explain...
By using femtosecond laser pulses at a wavelength range from 720 to 780nm, we have observed absorptive and refractive nonlinearities in film of multiwalled carbon nanotubes grown mainly along the direction perpendicular surface quartz substrate. The z-scans show that both are negative cubic nature irradiance few 300GW∕cm2. magnitude third-order nonlinear susceptibility, χ(3), is an order 10−11esu. degenerate pump–probe measurement reveals relaxation time ∼2ps.
Dye-doped polymer-dispersed liquid crystals have been studied for random lasing. The dye-doped crystal film was fabricated by photoinitiated polymerization with a collimated 514.5nm Ar+ laser beam. Scanning electron microscopy analysis showed that most droplets in polymer matrix ranged from 20to80nm. Gain narrowing and lasing dispersed were observed under the excitation of frequency-doubled Nd:YAG (yttrium aluminum garnet) operating at wavelength 532nm. possible mechanism proposed to explain...
