We report the high gradient testing results of two single-cell off-axis coupled standing wave accelerating structures. Two brazed structures with same geometry were tested: one made pure copper (Cu) and a copper–silver (CuAg) alloy silver concentration 0.08%. A peak surface electric field 450 MV/m was achieved in CuAg structure for klystron input power 14.5 MW 1 μs pulse length, which 25% higher than Cu structure. The superb performance because major optimizations cavity's geometry: (1)...

A variable energy drift tube linac (DTL) is required as part of the post-accelerator for ISAC project at TRIUMF. novel separated function DTL concept has been developed. Five independent interdigital H-type structures, each operating 105 MHz and 0/spl deg/ synchronous phase, provide acceleration, while quadrupole triplets triple-gap split-ring resonators placed between IH tanks periodic transverse longitudinal focussing respectively. Beam simulations show that can accelerate beams with...

The LANA computer code (Linear Accelerators Numerical Analysis) has been developed in INR, Moscow during the last several years and still is further development. This designated for design simulation of various kinds linear accelerators. Recently extensively used study separated function heavy ion DTL ISAC project at TRIUMF. paper describes mathematical models including space charge effects three-dimensional realistic accelerating field representation. In particular procedure drift tube...

Abstract The LANSCE accelerator facility has been in operation for 50 years performing important scientific support national security. unique feature of the is multi-beam operation, delivering beams to five experimental areas. To reduce long-term operational risks and realize future beam performance goals laboratory missions, we are developing a novel high-brightness Front End injector. proposed injector includes two independent low-energy transports H + - merging at entrance single RFQ....

Abstract The capability to directly study neutron capture reactions on radionuclides with half-lives the of order minutes would allow key cross section measurements in nuclear astrophysics and energy applications. However, such experiments stationary targets are currently impossible because signal detection target sample fielding issues. To overcome these challenges, a facility is being developed permit unstable isotopes inverse kinematics at Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE). This...

The Radio Frequency Fragment Separator (RFFS) proposed in [1] is now operational at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory (NSCL). RFFS an additional purification system for secondary beams NSCL after existing A1900 fragment separator and will primarily be used to purify of rare neutron deficient isotopes. A similar device already use RIKEN [2]. uses rf kicker angularly separate unwanted particles from desired ion beam, a pi/2 phase advance cell rotate beam space before reaches...
