Many local authorities in England and Wales have reduced street lighting at night to save money reduce carbon emissions. There is no evidence date on whether these reductions impact public health. We quantified the effect of 4 adaptation strategies (switch off, part-night lighting, dimming white light) casualties crime Wales.Observational study based analysis geographically coded police data road traffic collisions 62 authorities. Conditional Poisson models were used analyse longitudinal...

In the United Kingdom, since 2011 data regarding individual police recorded crimes have been made openly available to public via police.uk website. To protect location privacy of victims these are obfuscated using geomasking techniques reduce their spatial accuracy. This paper examines accuracy determine at what level(s) resolution – if any it is suitable for analysis in context theory testing and falsification, evaluation research, or crime analysis. <h3>Introduction</h3> Long-term air pollution exposure contributes to mortality but there are few studies examining effects of very long-term (&gt;25 years) exposures. <h3>Methods</h3> This study investigated modelled concentrations at residence for 1971, 1981, 1991 (black smoke (BS) and SO2) 2001 (PM10) in relation up 2009 367 658 members the longitudinal survey, a 1% sample English Census. Outcomes were all-cause (excluding accidents), cardiovascular (CV) respiratory...

Financial and carbon reduction incentives have prompted many local authorities to reduce street lighting at night. Debate on the public health implications has centred road accidents, fear of crime putative gains from reduced exposure artificial light. However, little is known about views relationship between health. We undertook a rapid appraisal in eight areas England Wales using ethnographic data, household survey documentary sources. Public concern focused safety, crime, mobility seeing...

Background Some local authorities have reduced street lighting at night to save energy, but little is known about impacts on public health or concerns well-being. Aim To evaluate the effect of crime and road traffic injuries. Design A mixed-methods study comprising a rapid appraisal, controlled interrupted time series analysis cost–benefit (CBA). Setting England Wales. Target population Residents workers in eight case areas; casualties victims crime. Interventions evaluated Switch-off (i.e....

Abstract Objectives This paper estimates the effect of changes in street lighting at night on levels crime street-level. Analyses investigate spatial and temporal displacement into adjacent streets. Methods Offense data (burglaries, robberies, theft from vehicles, violent crime) were obtained Thames Valley Police, UK. Street (switching lights off midnight, dimming, white light) local authorities. Monthly counts street-level analyzed using a conditional fixed-effects Poisson regression model,...

Abstract The prevalence of many diseases in pigs displays seasonal distributions. Despite growing concerns about the impacts climate change, we do not yet have a good understanding role that weather factors play explaining such patterns. In this study, national and county-level aggregated abattoir inspection data were assessed for England Wales during 2010–2015. Seasonally-adjusted relationships characterised between weekly ambient maximum temperature both respiratory conditions tail biting...

Measurements of the rates at which droppings wall lizards ( Podarcis muralis ) on Jersey appeared in, and disappeared from, environment made it possible to formulate a simple mathematical model for dynamics faecal pellet populations. The shows how, given lizard population, number changes with time according weather conditions. It was used estimate densities sites from daily counts. There were significant differences in between sites; reasons these are discussed.

Maximising asset utilisation and minimising downtime waste are becoming increasingly important to all manufacturing facilities as competition increases profits decrease. The tools assist with monitoring these machining processes more in demand. A system designed fulfil the needs of machine tool operators supervisors has been developed its impact on precision industry is being considered. benefits implementing this system, compared traditional methods, will be discussed here.
