Objectives . Five different second-generation supraglottic airway devices, ProSeal LMA, Supreme i-gel, SLIPA, and Laryngeal Tube Suction-D, were studied. Operators inexperienced users with a military background, combat lifesavers, nurses, physicians. Methods This was prospective, randomized, single-blinded study. Devices inserted in the operating room low light conditions after induction of general anesthesia. Primary outcome successful insertion on first attempt while secondary aims time,...

Objectives: Maintaining diaphragm work using electrical stimulation during mechanical ventilation has been proposed to attenuate ventilator-induced dysfunction. This study assessed the safety and feasibility of temporary percutaneous phrenic nerve on user-specified inspiratory breaths while ventilation. Design: Two-center, nonblinded, nonrandomized study. Setting: Hospital ICU. Patients: Twelve patients mechanically ventilated from 48 hours an expected 7 days. Interventions: Leads were...

Abstract Background Diaphragm atrophy and dysfunction is a major problem among critically ill patients on mechanical ventilation. Ventilator-induced diaphragmatic thought to play role, resulting in failure of weaning. Stimulation the phrenic nerves diaphragm contraction could potentially prevent or treat this atrophy. The subject study determine effectiveness stimulation preventing by measuring changes its thickness. Methods A total 12 intervention group 10 control were enrolled. thickness...

Summary Background The i‐gel® Plus is a modified version of the supraglottic airway device. It contains wider drainage port; longer tip; ramps inside breathing channel; and an additional port for oxygen delivery. There has been no prospective evaluation this device in clinical practice. Methods This international, multicentre, cohort study aimed to evaluate performance i‐gel adult patients undergoing elective procedures under general anaesthesia. primary outcome was overall insertion success...

Videolaryngoscopes may reduce cervical spine movement during tracheal intubation in patients with neck trauma. This manikin study aimed to compare the performance of disposable non-channeled and channeled blades King Vision™ videolaryngoscope simulated injury. Fifty-eight anesthesiologists training intubated TruMan immobilized using each blade a randomized order. The primary outcome was time needed for intubation, secondary aims included total success rate, required visualization larynx,...

Introduction Supraglottic airway devices represent a less invasive method of management than tracheal intubation during general anaesthesia. Their continued development is focused mainly on improvements in the insertion success rate and minimalisation perioperative postoperative complications. The i-gel Plus novel, anatomically preshaped supraglottic device which achieves perilaryngeal seal due to non-inflatable cuff made soft thermoplastic elastomer. purpose this cohort study assess use...

Cricothyrotomy is a rescue procedure in "cannot intubate, cannot oxygenate" scenarios where other methods of nonsurgical airway management have failed. We compared 2 cuffed cricothyrotomy sets, bougie-assisted (BACT) and novel percutaneous TracheoQuick Plus, on live porcine model simulated periarrest situation.Thirty-four anesthetized minipigs were randomly allocated into two groups: BACT technique (n = 17) Plus 17). The primary outcome was duration while secondary outcomes total success...
