Abstract A significant amount of resources is spent every year on the improvement transportation infrastructure in developing countries. In this paper, we investigate effects one such large project, Golden Quadrilateral India. We do so using a model internal trade with variable markups. contrast to previous literature, our incorporates several channels through which affects welfare. particular, accounts for gains stemming from improvements allocative efficiency economy. calibrate Indian...
Spanish GDP grew at an average rate of 3.5% per year during the 1995-2007 expansion, well above EU 2.2%. However, this growth was based on factor accumulation rather than productivity gains as TFP fell annual 0.7%. Using firm-level administrative data for all sectors we show that deterioration in allocative efficiency productive factors across firms root low Spain, while misallocation played only a minor role. We within-industry production increased substantially over period industries....
This paper estimates the GDP impact of legislated tax changes in Spain using a newly constructed narrative record for period 1986–2015. Our baseline suggest that 1% increase exogenous taxes depresses output by around 1.3% after 1 year, this negative effect fading away at more distant horizons. We also find effects indirect are larger and that, following increase, investment reacts than consumption. Overall, our set is consistent with triggered increases, yet quantitative subject to...
Abstract We exploit the GEOSTAT 2011 population grid with a very high 1 km 2 resolution to document that Spain presents lowest density of settlements among European countries. Only small fraction Spanish territory is inhabited, particularly in its southern half, which goes hand degree concentration. uncover through standard regression analysis and spatial discontinuity this anomaly cannot be accounted for by adverse geographic climatic conditions. The second part paper takes historical...
We uncover the short- and long-run structural determinants of existing cross-country heterogeneity in public-private pay differentials for a broad set OECD countries. explore micro data (EU-SILC, 2004-2012) macro (1970-2014). Three results stand out. First, when looking at gaps based on individual data, more than half cross-sectional variation sample can be accounted by degree exposure to international competition, size public sector labour force its composition (i.e. intensity provision...
We use a unique administrative dataset of Spanish exporters to document the existence exporters’ geographical agglomeration by export destination. reveal that firms selling countries with worse business regulations, dissimilar language and different currency tend cluster significantly more. then assess implications for firms’ behavior estimated welfare gains from trade. On one hand, we find engage in more stable trade relationships those are destinations nearby firms. other, introduce model...
Abstract Measured total factor productivity (TFP) fell in Spain during the boom years of 1995–2007. Using administrative data from quasi‐universe firms, we show that there was an increase misallocation, which more severe sectors where connections with public officials are important for business success. We write and estimate a simple model cronyism heterogeneous firms invest political connections. Our quantitative exercise concludes institutional decline over this period costed 1.9% growth...
How do voters react to large shocks that are (mostly) outside the control of politicians? We address this question by studying electoral effects wildfires in Spain during 1983-2011. Using a difference-in-difference strategy, we find accidental fire up nine months ahead local election increases incumbent party’s vote share almost 8 percentage points. rally-behind-the-leader effect best explains results. A simple formalization mechanism yields an implication – should be larger for stronger...
Can the Spanish government generate more tax revenue by making personal income taxes progressive? To answer this question, we build a life-cycle economy with uninsurable labor productivity risk and endogenous supply. Individuals face progressive on capital incomes proportional that capture social security, corporate income, consumption taxes. Our is yes, but not much. A reform increases for individuals who earn than mean reduces those less generates small additional revenue. The from...
Background: Pediatric and young adult pts with R/R B-ALL experience a treatment journey characterized by diminishing likelihood of cure increasing morbidity. Tisagenlecleucel is an autologous CD19-directed chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy approved for use in pediatric adults B-cell lymphomas. provided high rates remission (>80%) children ELIANA, 62% responders remaining relapse-free at 24 mo (Grupp et al, Blood, 2018). Aims: Here, we report the final efficacy safety analyses...

How do voters react to shocks that are outside the control of politicians? We address this question by studying electoral impact wildfires in Spain period 1983-2014. This context allows us study (a) effects fires at different locations and times, as opposed a specific disaster; (b) heterogeneous time relative election day; (c) on elections for all levels government. Using difference-in-difference strategy, we find an accidental fire up 9 months ahead municipal increases incumbent party’s...
In this paper, we use administrative data on tax returns to characterize the distributions of before- and after-tax income, liabilities credits in Spain for individuals households. We most recent available data, 2015 2013 households, but also discuss how income distribution taxes have changed since 2002. estimate effective functions that capture underlying heterogeneity a parsimonious way. These parametric can be used calculate incomes surveys where information is not directly available,...
We exploit the GEOSTAT 2011 population grid with a very high 1-km2 resolution to document that Spain presents lowest density of settlements among European countries. uncover this anomaly cannot be accounted for by adverse geographic and climatic conditions. Using techniques from spatial econometrics, we identify clusters exhibit densities within after controlling geo-climatic factors: these areas mainly belong Teruel, Zaragoza, Ciudad Real, Albacete, Sevilla Asturias. also explore attributes...
This study (ReCORD-FL) sought to construct a historical control cohort augment single-arm trials in relapsed/refractory follicular lymphoma (r/r FL). A retrospective 10 centers across North America and Europe was conducted. Adults with grade 1–3A FL were required be r/r after ≥2 therapy lines including an anti-CD20 alkylator. After first becoming r/r, patients initiate ≥1 additional line, which defined the index date. Endpoints observed from start of each line (including line) until death,...

We study the relationship between economic distortions and size distribution of plants using comparable plant-level data across 104 developing countries. Our main result is to show that, other things equal, countries with larger allocate more labor small unproductive units. By decomposing business environment into different type distortions, we find that poor access financial credit one driving our results. also there exists a significant cross-country aggregate productivity. These results...
