We present here the annotation of complete genome rice Oryza sativa L. ssp. japonica cultivar Nipponbare. All functional annotations for proteins and non-protein-coding RNA (npRNA) candidates were manually curated. Functions identified or inferred in 19,969 (70%) proteins, 131 possible npRNAs (including 58 antisense transcripts) found. Almost 5000 annotated protein-coding genes found to be disrupted insertional mutant lines, which will accelerate future experimental validation annotations....
Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is an important food crop relied upon by billions of people worldwide. However, with increasing pressure from climate change and rapid population growth, cultivation very water-intensive. Therefore, it critical to produce rice that high-yielding genetically more water-use efficient. Here, using the stabilized fast-neutron mutagenized Jao Hom Nin (JHN) - a popular purple cultivar we microscopically examined hundreds flag leaves identify four stomatal model mutants...
Dark purple riceberry bran contains a higher dietary fiber and antioxidant compounds than unpigmented rice bran. Riceberry supplement (RB) was used to evaluate the effects on biochemical parameters, skeletal muscle glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4), oxidative stress inflammation in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetes rat. To elucidate were due supplementation and/or bioactive components, equivalent amounts of present RB also fed STZ-induced diabetic rats. Diabetes Sprague–Dawley rats (non-FBG...
Seed-setting rate, yield components and grain quality traits of 169 accessions from an exotic rice germplasm were tested under high temperatures 40 °C to 45 for 6 h during the daytime at vegetative reproductive stages, respectively. The results showed that heat stress significantly decreased seed-setting rate all accessions, but effects varied among accessions. Based on decreases in temperatures, N22 was most tolerant, followed by AUS17, M9962, SONALEE AUS16. Moreover, reductions more...
Summary This study investigated both the anthocyanin content and antioxidant capacity of a set genetically related glutinous nonglutinous T hai black rice varieties. The ethanol/water extracts brans these varieties showed relatively potent activities compared with those tocopherol. These were determined by thiocyanate, H 2 O ‐scavenging chemiluminescence ( XYZ ), C u ++ /bathocuproine colorimetry PAO ) 1,1‐diphenyl‐2‐picrylhydrazyl radical‐scavenging assay. structural identification...
Abstract Grain quality is one of the main targets that rice breeders focus on to improve elite varieties. Several characteristics are considered when determine grain quality, such as aroma, amylose content (AC), gelatinization temperature (GT) and, especially, lengthwise elongation (GE). GE a desirable feature in premium high India and Pakistan’ Basmati. Inheritance has not been clearly elucidated due its complex inconsistent pattern. In this study, we identified QTLs for using...
In the past 20 years, rice-breeding program in Thailand had little success developing new cultivars to replace Kao Dawk Mali 105 (KDML105) and Khor 6 (RD6) for rainfed lowland rice environments. The main reason poor adoption of by farmers is susceptibility diseases unacceptable grain qualities. conventional breeding also takes at least 15 years from initial crossing release cultivars. A strategy can be established shorten period cultivar improvement using marker-assisted selection (MAS),...
With 1 figure and 2 tables Abstract The rice varieties IR64 Jao Hom Nin (JHN) demonstrated a broad‐spectrum resistance against the blast pathogens in Thailand. A genomic investigation unravelled many genes residing on four regions, chromosome 12 11 JHN. cross between these was made to combine into single genotype. Marker‐assisted selection (MAS) employed identify F 3 plants carrying combination of QTLs homozygous fusion. Flanking markers RM212/RM319 RM144/RM139 resistant JHN tightly‐linked...
2-Acetyl-1-pyrroline (2AP), the volatile compound that provides 'popcorn-like' aroma in a large variety of cereal and food products, is widely found nature. Deficiency amino aldehyde dehydrogenase (AMADH) was previously shown to be likely cause 2AP biosynthesis rice (Oryza sativa L.). In this study, validity mechanism investigated soybeans (Glycine max An assay AMADH activity revealed aromatic soybean, which contains 2AP, also lacked enzyme activity. Two genes, GmAMADH1 GmAMADH2, are...
Blast is an economically important disease of rice. To map genes controlling blast resistance, recombinant inbred lines (RIL) were developed from Khao Dawk Mali 105, aromatic, blast-susceptible cultivar and the resistance donor, CT 9993-5-10-M (CT). A linkage encompassing 2112 cM was constructed 141 RILs using 90 restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLPs) 31 simple sequence repeats (SSR). Virulent isolates fungus identified by screening differential host sets against 87 single-spore...
Rice (Oryza sativa) is one of the most important food crops in world. blast, caused by fungal pathogen Magnaporthe oryzae, destructive rice diseases worldwide. To effectively cope with this problem, use blast resistance varieties through innovative breeding programs best strategy to date. The Thai variety Jao Hom Nin (JHN) showed broad-spectrum against isolates. Two QTLs for JHN were reported on chromosome 1 (QTL1) and 11 (QTL11).
Introduction Rice is among the least water-use-efficient crops, and rice plants utilise most of their water uptake for transpirational cooling via stomata. To improve water-use efficiency (WUE) in rice, reducing stomatal density size could help optimise transpiration photosynthesis. Methodology In this study, we compared two series purple stomata mutants: Stomatal Model Mutant (SMM) identified by microscopic observation flag-leaf stomata, Drought-selected (DMM) generated through screening...
This study was designed to determine the anthocyanin cyanidin-3-glucoside content and antioxidant activity of rice varieties under salinity stress. Two classes Thai lines: cyanic (Riceberry, Kham, Khamdoisaket) acyanic (KDML 105, Sinlek, BC2F7#62-56) were hydroponically grown.Seedlings grown for 16 days supplied with nutrient solution 0 (control) 60 mM NaCl 11 days. The total phenolic activity, including 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl free radical-scavenging, ferric reducing power, lipid...
