Abstract In the past decade, there has been an increase in allergic reactions to peanut proteins, sometimes resulting fatal anaphylaxis. The development of improved methods for diagnosis and treatment allergies requires a better understanding structure allergens. Ara h 1, major allergen belonging vicilin family seed storage is recognized by serum IgE from >90% peanut-allergic patients. this communication, 1 was shown form highly stable homotrimer. Hydrophobic interactions were...
Allergy to peanut is a significant IgE-mediated health problem because of the high prevalence, potential severity, and chronicity reaction. Ara h1, an abundant protein, recognized by serum IgE from >90% peanut-sensitive individuals. It has been shown belong vicilin family seed storage proteins contain 23 linear binding epitopes. In this communication, we have determined critical amino acids within each epitopes h1 that are important for immunoglobulin binding. Surprisingly, substitution...
Background Biofilms contribute to the pathogenesis of many forms Staphylococcus aureus infection. Treatment these infections is complicated by intrinsic resistance conventional antibiotics, thus creating an urgent need for strategies that can be used prevention and treatment biofilm-associated infections. Methodology/Principal Findings This study demonstrates a botanical natural product composition (220D-F2) rich in ellagic acid its derivatives limit S. biofilm formation degree correlated...
Stevioside, a constituent of Stevia rebaudiana, is commonly used as noncaloric sugar substitute in Japan. Consistent with reports the literature, we have found that stevioside not mutagenic judged by utilization Salmonella typhimurium strain TM677, either presence or absence metabolic activating system. Similar negative results were obtained several structurally related sweet-tasting glycosides. However, steviol, aglycone stevioside, was to be highly when evaluated 9000 X g supernatant...
The recent identification of profilin1 mutations in 25 familial ALS cases has linked altered function this cytoskeleton-regulating protein to the pathogenesis motor neuron disease. To investigate pathological role mutant disease, we generated transgenic lines mice expressing human with a mutation at position 118 (hPFN1G118V). One mouse high levels PFN1 brain and spinal cord exhibited many key clinical features consistent These include loss lower (ventral horn) upper neurons (corticospinal...
Ancient Mexican botanical literature was systematically searched for new plant sources of intensely sweet substances. Lippia dulcis Trev., a plant, emerged as candidate fractionation studies, and hernandulcin, sesquiterpene, isolated judged by human taste panel more than 1000 times sweeter sucrose. The structure the sesquiterpene determined spectroscopically confirmed chemical synthesis. Hernandulcin nontoxic when administered orally to mice, it did not induce bacterial mutation.

Abstract— The photoactivated antiviral and cytotoxic activities of the naturally occurring thiophene, α‐terthienyl (1), 15 synthetic analogues were evaluated against murine cytomegalovirus Sindbis virus, mastocytoma cells. After irradiation with near UV light, most its had significant toxicity, minimum inhibitory concentrations in range 0.02–40 μ M . In absence irradiation, only one analogue activity five cytotoxic. active those containing carboxylic acid, hydroxyl, or cyano substituents....
Oxidative stress is a major mechanism of variety renal diseases. Tocopherols and tocotrienols are well known antioxidants. This study aimed to determine whether γ-tocotrienol (GT3) protects against mitochondrial dysfunction proximal tubular cell (RPTC) injury caused by oxidants. Primary cultures RPTCs were injured using tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) in the absence presence GT3 or α-tocopherol (AT). Reactive oxygen species (ROS) production increased 300% TBHP-injured RPTCs. State 3...
Radiation-induced heart disease (RIHD) is a long-term side effect of radiotherapy intrathoracic, chest wall and breast tumors when radiation fields encompass all or part the heart. Previous studies have shown that pentoxifylline (PTX) in combination with α-tocopherol reduced manifestations RIHD rat models local irradiation. The relative contribution PTX to these beneficial effects are not known. This study examined alone tocotrienols, forms vitamin E potential potent mitigation properties....
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is both a devastating and common disease. Every year in the United States, about 24,500 men 10,000 women are diagnosed with HCC, more than half of those patients die from this Thus far, conventional therapeutics have not been successful for HCC due to various underlying comorbidities. Poor survival rate high incidence recurrence after therapy indicate that differences between redox environments normal surrounding liver valuable targets improve treatment...
ABSTRACT Quaternary ammonium compounds (QAC) were studied to characterize their inhibition and reversal of S. typhimurium's strong attachment chicken skin. An initial screening human buccal epithelial cell model a novel, highly quantitative using pieces skin in culture plates used. Some QAC, particularly cetylpyridinium chlo ride (CPC), extremely effective at both inhibiting reversing viable typhinlurium Pretreatment (room temperature, 10 min) with 0.1% CPC completely inhibited the...
