Tiara[5]arenes (T[5]s), a new class of five-fold symmetric oligophenolic macrocycles that are not accessible from the addition formaldehyde to phenol, were synthesized for first time. These pillar[5]arene-derived structures display both unique conformational freedom, differing pillararenes, with rich blend solid-state conformations and excellent host-guest interactions in solution. Finally we show how this novel macrocyclic scaffold can be functionalized variety ways used as functional...

Abstract The construction of nanotubes with well-defined structures, although synthetically challenging, offers the prospect studying novel chemical reactions and transportation within confined spaces, as well fabricating molecular devices nanoporous materials. Here we report a discrete nanotube, namely covalent organic pillar COP-1 , synthesized through [2 + 5] imine condensation reaction involving two penta-aldehyde macrocycles five phenylenediamine linkers. A pair enantiomeric nanotubes,...

The development of an efficient synthetic route toward rim-differentiated C5-symmetric pillar[5]arenes (P[5]s), whose two rims are decorated with different chemical functionalities, opens up successive transformations this macrocyclic scaffold. This paper describes a gram-scale synthesis penta-hydroxy P[5] precursor, and range highly reactions that allow functionalizing either rim at will via, e.g., sulfur(VI) fluoride exchange (SuFEx) reactions, esterifications, or Suzuki-Miyaura coupling....

A class of novel spirooxindole compounds (2) were readily synthesized, in a metal-free environment, from N-arylamide derivatives (1) via intramolecular oxidative cyclization. Direct C(sp2)-C(sp3) bond formation was realized with the least-studied PhI(OMe)2 as an oxidant, formed situ reaction between PhIO and MeOH.

A general and efficient lactonization method of readily available 2-alkynylbenzoates affording biologically important isochromenones has been realized via a solely BF3·Et2O-mediated 6-endo-dig cyclization process under mild conditions. An alternative mechanistic pathway in which BF3·Et2O activates the carbonyl ester moiety, rather than alkyne triple bond, was postulated on basis control experiment results. Gram-scale reaction further application for assembly more complex molecules...

Abstract Upon treatment with solely a hypervalent iodine reagent of phenyliodine(III) bis(trifluoroacetate) (PIFA), 3‐(2‐hydroxyphenyl)‐3‐oxo‐ N ‐phenyl propanamides and series its derivatives were conveniently converted to class undocumented spirofurooxindoles under mild conditions. Control experiments provided evidence that this spirocyclization process encompassed cascade oxidative reactions involving the formation C−O bond prior C−C bond. magnified image

Bi2WO6 with a flower-like structure was successfully synthesised by simple surfactant-free hydrothermal method. The structures were composed of many interweaved nanosheets to form an open porous structure. BET results showed that had large surface area 17.8 m2/g, which 28 times higher than the prepared solid state reaction (SSR-Bi2WO6). A possible formation mechanism is proposed. Owing area, and high surface-to-volume ratios, exhibited better photocatalytic activity SSR-Bi2WO6 for...
