An aspect of the measurement selection problem-the existence anomalous orderings on probability error obtained by selected subsets measurements-is discussed. It is shown that for any ordering as a function subset measurements (subject to an obvious set monotonicity condition), there exists multivariate normal two-hypothesis problem N(μ,K) versus exhibits this ordering. Thus no known nonexhaustive sequential k-measurement procedure optimal, even jointly measurements.
The authors present a high-resolution sensor composed of three ultrasonic sensors, one transmitter/receiver and two extra receivers, which allows significant improvement in the information-extraction process. With this position (distance bearing) all isolated objects an approximately 25 degrees field view can be determined using information contained single snapshot moderately complex scene. Within limits, system also discriminate between different types reflectors, particular, walls edges,...
We propose photonic reservoir computing as a new approach to optical signal processing in the context of large scale pattern recognition problems.Photonic is implementation recently proposed concept, where dynamics network nonlinear elements are exploited perform general tasks. In our implementation, we employ coupled Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers (SOA) basic building blocks for reservoir.Although they differ many key respects from traditional software-based hyperbolic tangent reservoirs,...
It is well-known that maximum entropy distributions, subject to appropriate moment constraints, arise in physics and mathematics. In an attempt find a physical reason for the appearance of following theorem offered. The conditional distribution <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">X_{l}</tex> given empirical observation xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">(1/n)\sum^{n}_{i}=_{l}h(X_{i})=\alpha</tex> , where...
In this paper we introduce a new algorithm for encoding analog information into spike trains, given that the reconstruction will take place using FIR filter. An older technique called HSA is reviewed and an optimal threshold value found. A BSA introduced. These methods are then compared experimentally.
For the development and evaluation of computer-aided design tools for partitioning, floorplanning, placement, routing digital circuits, a huge amount benchmark circuits with suitable characteristic parameters is required. Observing lack industrial available use in tools, one could consider to actually generate synthetic circuits. In this paper, we extend graph-based generation method include functional information. The user-specified component library, together restriction that no...
This paper introduces enhancements to the SpikeProp algorithm (S. M. Bohte, et al., 2002), an error-backpropagation learning rule suited for spiking neurons using exact spike time coding. These provide additional rules synaptic delays, constants and neurons' thresholds. results in less constrained network topologies (the XOR problem example needs up 10 times weights convergence is two faster).
The authors propose a measurement setup consisting of number ultrasonic sensors used in parallel to perform triangulation measurements. sensor system is based on two ideas. first idea was use signal processing techniques borrowed from existing radar and sonar systems. This allows the accurate determination position multiple objects. Processing data real time demands fairly powerful system. second assign microprocessor each transducer. To support final setup, transputers were as elements they...
The relevance of introducing optical interconnects (OI's) in monoprocessors and multiprocessors is studied from an architectural point view. We show that perhaps the major explanation for why technologies have nearly been unable to penetrate into computers OI's generally do not shorten memory-access time, which most critical issue today's stored-program machines. In time dominated by electronic latency memory itself. Thus implementing inside hierarchy without changing architecture cannot...
Abstract Three-dimensional (3-D) geometry can be described in many ways, with both a varying syntax and semantics. As result, several very diverse schemas file formats deployed to describe geometry, depending on the application domain question. In multidisciplinary such as of architecture, engineering, construction, this range specialized makes format conversions inevitable. The approach adopted by current conversion tools, however, often results loss information, most due “mistranslation”...
Important layout properties of electronic circuits include space requirements and interconnection lengths. In the process designing these circuits, a reliable pre‐layout length estimation is essential for improving placement routing techniques. Donath found an upper bound average that follows trends experimentally observed Yet, this deviates from experimental value by factor δ ≈ 2, which not sufficiently accurate some applications. We show we obtain significantly more estimate taking into...
A multichannel free-space microoptical module for dense MCM-level optical interconnections has been designed and fabricated. Extensive modeling proves that the is scalable with a potential multi-Tb/s/spl middot/cm 2 aggregate bit rate capacity while alignment fabrication tolerances are compatible present-day mass replication techniques. The an assembly of refractive lenslet-arrays...
The peaking phenomenon of the Bayes recognition accuracy pattern classifiers with unknown underlying statistics is addressed. It shown that this effect, known as Hughes paradox, arises from improper comparisons statistically incomparable models. A formalization notion comparability introduced, and some results obtained in literature are revisited context.
For several years, optics and photonics have been demonstrating their superiority over electronics in high-bandwidth, long-distance interconnects. Spurred by the advancing state of technology, level system hierarchy at which optical interconnect provides clear advantages electrical appears to become distinctly lower as time moves on. In this paper, we focus on use logic interchip interconnect. While, general such low hierarchical levels currently are best doubtful, there appear exist...
