Background and Objectives: Craniometric landmarks are essential in many biomedical applications, such as morphometric analysis or forensic identification. The process of locating is usually a manual slow task, highly influenced by fatigue, skills the experience practitioner. Localization errors propagated magnified subsequent steps, which can result incorrect measurements assumptions. Thereby, standardization, reliability reproducibility lay foundations for necessary accuracy anatomical...
Mosquitoes, including invasive species like the Asian tiger mosquito Aedes albopictus, alongside native Culex pipiens s.l., pose a significant nuisance to humans and serve as vectors for mosquito-borne diseases in urban areas. Understanding impact of water infrastructure characteristics, climatic conditions, management strategies on occurrence effectiveness control measures assess their implications is crucial effective vector control. In this study, we examined data collected during local...
Over the past few years, several methods have been proposed to improve accuracy of age estimation in infants with a focus on dental development as reliable marker. However, traditional approaches limitations efficiently combining information from different teeth and features. In order address these challenges, this article presents study Machine Learning (ML) techniques, using deciduous teeth.
Image registration (IR) - the task of aligning different images having a common content is fundamental problem in computer vision. In particular, IR one key steps medical imaging, with applications ranging from assisted diagnosis to aided therapy and surgery. As can be formulated as an optimization problem, large family metaheuristics methods used improve results obtained by classic gradient-based, continuous techniques. this work, we extend our previous intensity-based image technique based...
Human and animal vector-borne diseases, particularly mosquito-borne are emerging or re-emerging worldwide. Six Aedes invasive mosquito (AIM) species were introduced to Europe since the 1970s: aegypti, Ae. albopictus, japonicus, koreicus, atropalpus triseriatus. Here, we report results of AIMSurv2020, first pan-European surveillance effort for AIMs. Implemented by 42 volunteer teams from 24 countries. And presented in form a dataset named "AIMSurv Invasive Mosquito harmonized Europe. AIM-COST...
We introduce a new intensity-based image registration (IR) technique based on modern, real-coded genetic algorithm. Our proposal is tested 16 scenarios involving real-world MRI medical images. A novel methodological framework to compare heterogeneous IR algorithms also described. Following such methodology, our algorithm compared with four well-known techniques of different natures. The proposed method able improve the results these in majority scenarios.
Image registration is a fundamental step in combining information from multiple images medical imaging, computer vision and image processing. In this paper, we configure recent evolutionary algorithm for registration, r-GA, with an offline automatic parameter tuning technique. addition, demonstrate the use of to compare different algorithms, since it allows consider results that are not affected by ability efforts invested designers configuring crucial task strongly impacts their...
Craniofacial superimposition aims to identify a missing person by comparing its skull with photos of possible candidates. Among the difficult tasks involved, this requires superimposing over each photo, matching pose that face, problem known as skull-face overlay (SFO). Several computerized methods for SFO have been proposed, in an effort relieve forensic experts complex, time-consuming, and subjective task. A system generate artificial data from computed tomography images has also...
Cooperative coevolution has proven to be a promising technique for solving complex combinatorial optimization problems. In this paper, we present four different strategies which involve cooperative of genetic program and population constants evolved by algorithm. The evolves expressions that solve problem, while the algorithm provides "good" values numeric terminal symbols used those expressions. Experiments have been performed on three symbolic regression problems "real-world" biomedical...
Image registration (IR) or image alignment is a fundamental step in medical analysis when multiple images are involved. In most of such applications, the performed following intensity-based approach, which turns IR into complex, computationally expensive, continuous optimization problem. this paper, we introduce new technique for using Bacterial Foraging Optimization Algorithm (BFOA), novel bio-inspired metaheuristic. BFOA has recently obtained promising results many real-world including...
Facial biometrics play an essential role in the fields of law enforcement and forensic sciences. When comparing facial traits for human identification photographs or videos, analysis must account several factors that impair application common techniques, such as illumination, pose, expression. In particular, attributes can drastically change depending on distance between subject camera at time picture. This effect is known perspective distortion, which severely affect outcome comparative...
