Lean six sigma (LSS) is a quality improvement phenomenon that has captured the attention of industry. Aiming at capability level 3.4 defects per million opportunities (Six Sigma) and efficient (lean) processes, LSS been shown to improve business efficiency customer satisfaction by blending best methods from Six Sigma (SS). Many businesses have attempted implement LSS, but not everyone succeeded in improving processes achieve expected outcomes. Hence, understanding cause effect relationships...
A bstract : It is now well known that the diffusion coefficient ( D ) measured in a laboratory low earth orbit (LEO) less than corresponding value terrestrial laboratory. However, all LEO laboratories are subject to transient accelerations g ‐jitter) superimposed on steady reduced gravity environment of space platform. In measurements coefficients for dilute binary alloys Pb‐(Ag, Au,Sb), Sb‐(Ga,In), Bi‐(Ag,Au,Sb), Sn‐(Au,Sb), Al‐(Fe, Ni,Si), and In‐Sb which ‐jitter was suppressed, it found ∝...
Optimisation of temperature management in postharvest operations, such as precooling, requires extensive experimental measurement. For this purpose, real fruit are used, but due to their relatively high cost and perishable nature, commercial scale trials not easily conducted. In addition, significant variability between exists (Vigneault et al., 2005). Physical analogues or simulators could provide a solution overcome these issues. To be the must designed mimic relevant heat transfer modes...
The Massey University Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) programme is based on a series Projectbased learning (PBL) courses. It observed historically that students have difficulty initiating project work, planning projects and deciding what decisions information should be their focus."Rapid Learning Cycles", developed by K. Radeka, combines New Product Development models "Lean Development" "Agile Scrum" into framework uses regular cycles for execution. The process identifies Key Decisions to...
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate how successful lean six sigma (LSS) manifests in the Australasian (Australian and New Zealand) context relative USA terms LSS project definition, structure practices. Design/methodology/approach In-depth investigation through case studies – 12 Australian/New Zealand cases 4 US on implementation mechanisms initiatives. Findings A significant difference was found between definitions an project. However, firms both regions followed similar...
The aim of this study is to identify an effective Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) approach that can differentiate between a usable and unusable piece aged soft body armour for protection body. Firstly, target materials were artificially through heating humidity. Secondly, new samples analyzed in terms strength Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). outcome FTIR was compared with the tensile test result validate proposed NDE approach.
Due to the high cost and variable nature of fruit, it is not easy conduct commercial scale experiments for research. Replacing fruit with simulators/analogues could solve these issues. To mimic a simulator must contain same important properties so that simulation representative cooling condition (e.g. heat transfer mechanisms involved in precooling storage). This study describes how time-scaled approach can be applied design. The hypothesis that, if an object mimics shape thermal...
