Abstract The Congo (CC) and the São Francisco (SFC) cratons were joined at about 2.05 Ga; northern parts of Palaeoproterozoic basement subsequently underwent extension 1 Ga, forming intracratonic basins. Neoproterozoic metasedimentary rocks in these basins yield detrital zircons as young 630 Ma. Brasiliano Pan-African ( c. 620–580 Ma) assembly West Gondwana extensively altered this system. Sergipano domain occurs north SFC, comparable Yaoundé CC. Crust comprises Pernambuco–Alagoas (PEAL)...

The Pernambuco–Alagoas (PE–AL) Domain contains major granitic batholiths typified by a wide range of TDM model ages (Archaean to Neoproterozoic), reflecting the important role quartzofeldspathic plutons attending Brasiliano (Pan-African) Orogeny. U/Pb zircon data for eight syn- post-collision syn-transcurrent intrusions PE–AL allow studied be divided into two groups: (1) granitoids with crystallization older than 600 Ma (Água Branca, Serra do Catú, da Caiçara, and Mata Grande plutons) (2)...

The 618 Ma Curral de Cima tonalite and 577 Lourenço monzodiorite, northeastern Brazil, are magmatic epidote-bearing plutons that carry ferrohornblende, biotite, titanite, epidote. Major, trace, isotope chemistry suggests the major magmas of two followed similar differentiation trends but derived from source rocks differed in age isotopic composition. mineral phases tonalite, presence amphibole-rich clots, juvenile component (average εNd = −3.55) point to an I-type for these rocks. The Bom Jardim and Toritama complexes form elongated bodies between the Pernambuco-Alagoas massif Pajeú-Paraíba fold belt comprise multiphase intrusions of monzonitic syenitic compositions. Low-angle foliation recorded in both complexes, indicated by alignment euhedral minerals, runs parallel to main thrust faults within region. This suggests that emplacement could be related faults. whole-rock geochemistry major trace elements, associated mineral chemistry, have established a shoshonitic...

Recent structural, petrological and geochronological work on plutons in eastern Borborema Province (NE Brazil) has helped to constrain its tectonic evolution during the Brasiliano/Pan-African Orogeny. 645-630 Ma-old have been intensely affected by solid-state deformation. They show an early, shallowly moderately-dipping foliation conformable with regional fabric of country rocks, which is overprinted a steeply-dipping related strike-slip shearing. Two compositional groups are recognized: (i)...

The Proterozoic Sergipano fold belt is intruded by various Neoproterozoic late-tectonic granitic plutons of contrasting composition, ranging from (1) metaluminous normal-K calc-alkaline and high-K suites to (2) peralkaline shoshonitic/ultrapotassic (3) a peraiuminous crustal leucocratic complex. Whole-rock trace-element data, however, show an overlapping LILE enrichment, except for the ultrapotassic suite. HFSE distributions range 24 350 ppm, with highest values belonging suite lowest...
