Satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO) are subject to several environmental factors, atomic oxygen (AO) having the greatest effect on space materials, especially polymers. Recently, possibility of utilizing orbits at an altitude lower than 300 km (super LEO or S-LEO) has been explored, but one complication using these is that AO fluence expected far exceed ordinary LEO. The S-LEO materials used not well understood. To investigate influence we developed Material Degradation Monitor (MDM), which...
In this paper, we propose a new Quartz Crystal Microbalance (QCM) sensor with temperature control, which can assess outgassing properties during spacecraft development. It will be referred to as the "Twin-QCM sensor". There are two types. The Twin-Cryogenic QCM (Twin-CQCM) is warmed by built-in heater an operating of -190 +125°C, and Twin-ThermoelectricQCM (Twin-TQCM) cooled Peltier module that control within -80 +125°C. Using compensation technique, temperature-dependent drift frequency was...
Abstract The role of N 2 in the upper atmosphere on atomic oxygen (AO)-induced erosion polyimide low Earth orbit (LEO) and sub-LEO is investigated through ground-based experiments flight data. experiment performed by adding an Ar beam at same collision energy as undecomposed O component AO formed laser detonation to simulate physical effect simultaneous sub-LEO. added dual-pulsed supersonic valve-equipped laser-detonation system developed Kobe University. experimental results indicate that...
Hydrogen gas crossover, which reduces current efficiency, is critical issue in high pressure PEMWE (Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Water Electrolysis). This study proposes controlled wettability collector, enhances the detachment of hydrogen bubble from collector and decreases crossover. A operation a cell with visualization clarified that impacts on dynamics changes efficiency. Among collectors prepared, hydrophilic one indicated higher efficiency suggested smaller
Static random access memories (SRAMs) are prone to a single-event upset (SEU), also known as soft errors, due transient noise caused by single strike of radiation. Beam testing has been extensively used measure the SEU cross section SRAMs function linear energy transfer (LET) charged particle The evolution LET is called curve, which plays vital role in rate analysis for hardness assurance. Various analytical models have developed describe SRAM curves, and they proven be useful reducing cost...
In the authors' previous studies, theoretical model of ultrasonic wave velocity propagating in plastically deformed solids has been proposed by one authors and successively verified experimentally. Then, deformation localization was analyzed adopting model. The onset plastic defined as occurrence “stationary discontinuity” characterized a vanishing an acceleration based on theory. Moreover, shock theory derived that micro-crack nucleation is caused jump along intersected crossing line...
JAXA has proposed an innovative idea for satellites in Low Earth Orbit (LEO). The Super-Low Altitude Test Satellite (SLATS), also known as TSUBAME, is the first observation satellite to occupy a (S-LEO) or Very (VLEO), below 300 km. purposes of SLATS are 1) testing maintenance satellite’s altitude with its ion engine against high atmospheric drag at super-low altitude, 2) acquiring data on density and atomic oxygen (AO), 3) optical observation. was successfully launched 23 December 2017....
This article investigates the single-event effects on 16-nm bulk field-effect transistors (FinFETS) in terms of single-bit upsets and multiple-cell under heavy ion irradiation. These are analyzed classified according to voltage, linear energy transfer ions, data patterns, fail bit patterns. The analysis suggested a characteristic charge collection mechanism attributable FinFET structure. Estimation unique sensitive area shape based cross sections is also discussed.
The Quartz Crystal Microbalance (QCM) sensor is a key device used in evaluating outgas characteristics such as deposition, desorption, and temperature-dependent properties. We propose new cryogenic QCM (CQCM) with good usability temperature measurement accuracy using the twin-electrode technique. was named "Twin-CQCM". Its operating ranges from -190 to +125°C. drift of frequency less than ±10 ppm over whole range by compensation A placed directly on quartz crystal improves accuracy. To...
Introduction High pressure polymer electrolyte membrane water electrolyzer (PEMWE) is expected to efficiently produce high hydrogen gas in direct manner. Couple of companies and research institutes continues develop PEMWEs. PEMWEs can be utilized fuel the FCV[1]. Also, with PEMFC a good candidate for load leveling electricity between consumer demand renewable energy.[2] However, PEMWEs, as disadvantage, have large concern on its current efficiency. Produced crossovers PEM from cathode anode,...
To commercialize high-pressure hydrogen gas by solid polymer water electrolysis (SPWE), SPWE cell must insure its sealing technology. However, electrochemical like involve soft material such as electrolyte membrane (PEM), which make difficult. There are a few reports discussing standard of sealing. This study takes up possible physical parameters affecting gas-leakage from and conducts gas-tightness test load measurement between surface pressure-sensitive-film. Analyzing factor dominantly...
High pressure PEECs (Polymer Electrolyte Electrolysis Cells) possibly suffer from hydrogen gas crossover driven by the large difference between cathode and anode, decreases current efficiency. As a countermeasure of crossover, controlling wettability porous supplier is proposed here. Higher may promote detachment bubbles supplier, reduce retention time there, resulting in less crossover. This study evaluates this effect on experimentally. Experiments with changing revealed that higher...
INTRODUCTION PEMWE can produce hydrogen gas at high pressussure, directly. The pressure operation is expected to be a charger FCV car dealer and/or isolated district in prevailing period of station. It production device highly utilize sustainable energy. However, crossover problem address. High difference, such as several tens MPa, imposed through PEM causes significant amount crossover, which produced cathode permeates anode, resulting decrease current efficiency. Also, some the crossed...

In the authors' previous studies, estimation method about amount of point defect development using intersected cross slip calculated by finite element polycrystal model (FEPM) analysis was proposed. this paper, defects caused biaxial plastic deformation Aluminum under change strain paths is estimated FEPM numerical simulations. The obtained result compared with experimental results localized onset in an specimen measured laser speckle method. simulation were agreed well results.
Molecular contamination phenomena depend on temperature. For example, the morphology of a contaminant can change from uniform film to droplets. The authors believe that surface thin-film affects optical transmittance and reflectance camera lenses other sensors, so it is important gain better understanding contamination. investigated simple measurement technique determine molecular in vacuum at low temperatures using CMOS sensor chip. operates down −60°C, which covers our range interest...
