This study examined the constructs of capability, opportunity and motivation from COM-B model their influence on moderate-to-vigorous physical activity. Using a prospective survey design, 186 healthy adults completed measures representing theoretical domains framework mapped to COM-B, activity 1 week later. The main indicators for COM were 'habits' (Capability), 'subjective norms' (Opportunity) 'exercise self-identity' (Motivation). Motivation (77%) (50%) strongly predicted, with Capability...
Findings are presented from the first randomized control trial of effects encouraging symbolic gesture (or “baby sign”) on infant language, following 40 infants age 8 months to 20 months. Half mothers were trained model a target set gestures their infants. Frequent measures taken language development and dyadic interactions scrutinized assess mind‐mindedness. Infants exposed did not differ conditions outcomes; thus, no support was found for previous claims that gesturing with accelerates...
Purpose Clothing communicates information about the wearer and first impressions can be heavily influenced by messages conveyed attire. The purpose of this paper is to investigate effect minor changes in clothing on perception a male model, absence facial with limited time exposure. Design/methodology/approach In an on‐line study, 274 participants rated four images five dimensions (confidence, success, trustworthiness, salary flexibility). man was depicted wearing bespoke (made‐to‐measure)...
Data are presented from a longitudinal investigation examining the relationship between maternal mind‐mindedness ( MM ) in infancy and socio‐cognitive development childhood. We revisited children n = 18) who had taken part study as infants. been assessed at 10, 12, 16, 20 months of age. followed up these 5–6 years age to test their higher order theory mind (ToM) (using strange stories task). The convergent validity, temporal stability, predictive validity construct were examined data set....
Abstract Background Despite the proliferation of exercise referral schemes in UK, evidence on their efficacy is equivocal. The Welsh National Exercise Referral Scheme (NERS) heavily used but inequalities uptake have been reported. As a result COVID-19 pandemic, NERS was initially suspended and then transitioned from standard face-to-face delivery to alternative remote methods, including virtual delivery. aim this study explore barriers facilitators engagement when delivered formats, examine...
Abstract Background Time spent in green space such as parks and forests can have positive effects on physical mental health. Green Health Partnerships were set up Scotland to promote use of for health improvement. One the main mechanisms achieve this was setup Prescriptions (GHPr). This study evaluates three GHPrs different localities across a range feasibility elements, funding resourcing associated with implementation. Methods Interviews conducted service user, referrer, link worker,...
Objective In relation to sitting behaviour, investigate which theoretical domains best formed the Capability, Opportunity, and Motivation constructs of COM-B, compare predictive validity Theory Planned Behaviour (TPB), taking habit strength into consideration.Design Using a prospective design, 186 adults completed measures capturing from Theoretical Domains Framework for three COM-B constructs, strength, were examined using formative measurement model. Predictive was then compared TPB.Main...
Background Population level behaviour change, requiring individual change such as hand hygiene and physical distancing, are central to reducing transmission of infectious diseases, including COVID-19, but little is known about how best communicate this type risk information, populations might respond. We conducted a rapid systematic review identify synthesise evidence relating to: a) What characterises effective public-health messages for managing preventing disease, b) influences people’s...
Background: It is estimated that approximately 41,000 children and young people experience the death of a parent each year. Grief responses, such as anxiety depression, can follow. This research investigated adult reflections experiencing parental person. Methods: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with adults (N = 14; female n 8) who experienced person, which occurred over 5 years ago (time since death, M 12.9 years; age at 16.4 interview, 30.9 years). The data analysed inductively...
Individuals often receive judgements from others based on their clothing and posture. While both of these factors have been found to influence competency independently, relative importance in impression formation is yet be investigated. We address this by examining interactive effects posture four measures: confidence, professionalism, approachability, likeliness a high salary. Participants rated photographs male female models pictured different postures (strong, neutral, weak) smart (a suit...
Abstract Background Physical activity benefits physical and mental health. However, limited research investigates if can improve outcomes from the grieving process following death of a parent. Methods Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 14 individuals ( n = 8 female; age M 31.2 years), who had experienced parent when they aged between 10 24 years old, using retrospective recall. Data analysed inductively thematic analysis. Results Six themes identified. was seen as; 1) ‘...
Introduction There is a high prevalence of inactive adults in the UK, and many suffer from conditions such as cardiovascular disease (CVD) or poor mental health. These coexist more frequently areas higher socioeconomic deprivation. need to test effectiveness, acceptability sustainability physical activity programmes. Active Herts uses novel evidence-based behaviour change techniques target inactivity. Methods analysis community programme for aged 16+ with one risk factors CVD and/or mild...
The gestures that accompany speech are more than just arbitrary hand movements or communicative devices. They simulated actions can both prime and facilitate cognition. This study measured participants’ reaction times for naming degraded images of objects when simultaneously adopting a gesture was either congruent with the target object, incongruent it, not making any gesture. A within‐subjects design used, participants ( N = 122) 10 under each condition. Participants named significantly...
Abstract Background Exercise Referral Schemes (ERSs) have been implemented across Western nations to stimulate an increase in adult physical activity but evidence of their effectiveness and cost-effectiveness is equivocal. Poor ERS uptake adherence can a negative impact on and, if patterned by socio-demographic factors, also introduce or widen health inequalities. Different modes delivery the potential reduce costs enhance adherence. The primary aim this study was examine effect different...
