A new and spectacular species of Lepanthes from north-west Ecuador is presented here. tulcanensis belongs to the Marsipanthes subgenus similar L. niesseniae in same subgenus, with an inflorescence that does not reach tip leaves, flowers shallower synsepal compared rest subgenus. Nevertheless, plants are, by far, largest among aming genus.

Over the past 20 years, Telipogon nigropurpureus had been known from only one specimen type locality near Arcabuco, Boyacá, in central Colombia. During botanical explorations Colombia and Ecuador we have encountered more populations which are reported here. The new records found extend geographic range of T. by 950 km south locality. We provide an updated description, illustration, photographs species, together with information on its ecology distribution.

A new species of the genus Pseudolepanthes discovered in Carchi province, northwest Ecuador, is described here. The compared with P. zunagensis from which it distinguished by a longer inflorescence successive vinaceous or pale-yellow flowers, an elongate arcuate column, and lip erect, thick, widely rectangular central callus.

Jaguar populations ( Panthera onca ) on the Ecuadorian coast are critically endangered, with only a few dozen individuals remaining in region. In some areas, no records have been documented for decades. Between November 2023 and January 2024, independent camera trap monitoring northwestern Ecuador yielded evidence of presence jaguar, marking significant recovery after seven years absence Manduriacu at least 15 Junín. The jaguar was observed moving through an area approximately 25 km,...

Abstract Some species of Andean hummingbirds produce high-frequency vocalizations which exceed the vocal range most birds. They also challenge our understanding role habitat structure in evolution signals because these live strikingly different habitats, ranging from cloud forest to high-altitude grasslands. Although are produced at high frequencies, they exhibit considerable variation frequency content and temporal structure. The calls simpler have a narrow compared complex song grasslands...
