During the last decade it has become apparent that prenatally detected, unilateral severe hydronephrosis does not necessarily represent obstruction and may spontaneously improve or resolve postnatally. To define its natural history better we performed a long-term (mean 78 months) followup study of infants with hydronephrosis.A total 104 newborns antenatally diagnosed, primary, were followed nonoperatively unless evidence renal deterioration occurred for which pyeloplasty was performed. All 23...
We determine the etiology and treat specific pathophysiology of valve bladder syndrome.Defined as persisting or progressive severe hydroureteronephrosis without residual recurrent obstruction, syndrome developed in 18 boys who underwent successful ablation posterior urethral valve. Serial radiographic, renal function, renographic, urodynamic perfusion studies were performed for a mean time 11 years. The cause proved to be sustained over distention due combination polyuria with 24-hour urine...

Pediatric urolithiasis is relatively uncommon and there little information on the application of modern surgical procedures in young children. We present a single center experience with management upper tract calculi this age group. We reviewed presentation, co-morbidity, treatment, outcome complications all prepubertal patients who required treatment for ureteral or renal during 4-year period. The series consists 24 girls 17 boys months to 14 years old (mean 7.5 years). A total 26 children...
Cross-trigonal ureteral reimplantation is a commonly performed procedure for the correction of vesicoureteral reflux. Most previously described laparoscopic techniques have used an extravesical approach. A "vesicoscopic" technique analogous to standard open cross-trigonal repair in principle, except that 3 ports with insufflation bladder are perform reimplantation.A retrospective review was patients treated primary reflux either vesicoscopic or reimplantation. For 5 mm port placed dome and...
ABSTRACT Introduction Preliminary clinical studies have demonstrated that clonidine is an effective adjuvant to spinal anesthesia in neonates and infants. However, the conducted previously had a limited cohort size of 80–100, potentially limiting accurate measure its safety. Methods The current study retrospectively examines our 5–6‐year experience with as large Results included 1420 patients ranging age from newborn 36 months (median 7 months). Ninety‐five percent tolerated without...
ABSTRACT Background Reports on bilateral simultaneous native nephrectomies in the pediatric population are lacking. This study evaluates indications and outcomes of a tertiary care hospital's single center experience with over 15 years. Methods A retrospective chart review patients (< 21 years old) who underwent nephrectomy from January 1, 2009, to August 2024, at institution was performed for surgical indications, approach, outcomes. Results Ten were identified. Mean age 9.6 (range 14...

The Snodgrass hypospadias repair is fast becoming the procedure of choice for distal at many centers. Multiple series document excellent cosmetic outcome in conjunction with low complication rates. Modifications to original are presented, which may further limit risk complications.A retrospective review was performed all procedures by a single surgeon 3.5-year period. None boys had undergone prior surgery. Cases relatively narrow urethral plates (less than 8Fr) or "flat glans" were not...
We measured the volume of renal pelvis during diuretic renography (DR) in children with normal and hydronephrotic kidneys to determine if changes pelvic could affect accuracy DR diagnosing obstruction. We studied 18 patients 1 month 10 years old unilateral hydronephrosis ultimately proved be either obstructive or nonobstructive. Simultaneous ultrasound were performed supine using gamma camera. Ultrasound measurements 3 dimensions, obtained before at intervals after injection, used calculate...
In a 7-year period 28 patients 1 to 20 years old have undergone bladder neck closure in conjunction with Mitrofanoff diversion for the management of severe incontinence. Surgery was performed as salvage procedure 19 and primary anti-incontinence 9. At mean followup 29 months 27 (96%) were totally continent, requiring no pads. Bladder primarily successful 24 (86%) 25 (89%) had stable upper tracts. Five calculi 5 required stomal revisions. One child perforation associated blunt trauma. done...
