Since gestures are one of the natural interaction modalities between humans they also represent a promising modality for human computer interaction. Finger rings provide an unobtrusive way to detect hand and finger if able large variety involving hands multiple fingers. One method that could be used such with single ring is electric field sensing. In this paper we present early prototype, called eRing, which uses evaluate its capability different finger- hand-gestures via user study.
Although Data Gloves allow for the modeling of human hand, they can lead to a reduction in usability as cover entire hand and limit sense touch well reducing feasibility. As whole has many advantages (e.g. complex gesture detection) we aim while at same time keeping hand's natural degrees freedom (DOF) tactile sensibility high possible allowing manual tasks like grasping tools devices. Therefore, attach motion sensor boards (accelerometer, magnetometer gyroscope) hand. We conducted user...
Rings are widely accepted wearables for gesture interaction. However, most rings can sense only the motion of one finger or whole hand. We present PeriSense, a ring-shaped interaction device enabling multi-finger Gestures wearing ring and its adjacent fingers sensed by measuring capacitive proximity between electrodes human skin. Our main contribution is determination PeriSense’s space involving evaluation capabilities limitations. introduce prototype named analyze sensor resolution at...
We present a ring-shaped interaction device, called PeriSense, utilizing capacitive sensing in order to enable finger tracking. The angles and its adjacent fingers are sensed by measuring proximity between electrodes human skin. To map the measurements angles, we use long short-term memory (LSTM). By wearing ring on middle finger, of index, can be determined from measurements. collected sample data 17 users using Leap Motion camera, which provided reference data. In leave-one-user-out...
Special Operations Forces (SOF) are facing extreme risks when prosecuting crimes in uncharted environments like buildings. Autonomous drones could potentially save officers' lives by assisting those exploration tasks, but an intuitive and reliable way of communicating with autonomous systems is yet to be established. This paper proposes a set gestures that designed used SOF during operation for interaction systems.
In the search for novel and more expressive interaction techniques mobile devices, bodily aspects such as movement, gesture, touch based interfaces are prominent. For instance, touch-screen gestures have found widespread application in device while involving movement successfully applied gaming scenarios. Research systems increasingly explore other modalities, like pressure, free-hand on body settings. This has become possible through on-going developments that made sensing actuating...
Hand-based gesture interaction in smart environments provides a comfortable and discreet way to interact with the environment. However, most of available approaches are not robust enough against inaccurately performed gestures sensor noise such environments. This usually leads decreased recognition rate. Thus, overall experience suffers when To overcome these challenges improve performance, we aim develop generic context aware framework inferring user's intention from output an arbitrary...
We examined if entertainment-robots should use emotions. In an experiment we presented jokes to participants find out different emotions have effects on their pleasure. found that do impact users' perceptions when using entertainment robots.
The “HPI Future SOC Lab” is a cooperation of the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) and industry partners. Its mission to enable promote exchange interaction between research community partners. HPI Lab provides researchers with free charge access complete infrastructure state art hard software. This includes components, which might be too expensive for an ordinary environment, such as servers up 64 cores 2 TB main memory. offerings address particularly from but not limited areas computer...
In this demo paper, we present a demonstrator for ring-based finger tracking approach. The consists of ring-shaped interaction device, called PeriSense, utilizing capacitive sensing in order to enable tracking. motion the wearing ring and adjacent fingers is sensed by measuring proximity between electrodes human skin. To map measurements angles, apply regression model based on long short-term memory (LSTM). A virtual 3D hand renders simultaneous predicted angles.
