Agriculture is one of the economic sectors that affect climate change contributing to greenhouse gas emissions directly and indirectly. There a trend agricultural reduction, but any practice in this direction should not negatively farm productivity economics because would limit its implementation, due high global food feed demand competitive environment sector. Precision agriculture practices using high-tech equipment has ability reduce inputs by site-specific applications, as it better...

Methods are needed for the design and evaluation of cropping systems, in order to test effects introducing or reintroducing crops into rotations. The interaction legumes with other (rotational effects) requires an assessment at system scale. objective this work is introduce a framework assess impacts changes systems participatory approach experts, i.e., integration crop rotations demonstrate its application two case studies. consists rule-based rotation generator set algorithms calculate...

Abstract This article addresses the challenge of developing a ‘bottom‐up’ marginal abatement cost curve (MACC) for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from UK agriculture. An MACC illustrates costs specific crop, soil and livestock measures against ‘business as usual’ scenario. The results indicate that in 2022 under policy scenario, around 5.38 Mt CO 2 equivalent (e) could be abated at negative or zero cost. A further 17% agricultural GHG (7.85 e) lower unit than Government’s shadow price carbon...

Purpose: Participatory extension programmes are widely used to promote change in the agricultural sector, and an important question is how best measure effectiveness of such after implementation. This study seeks understand current state practice through a review ex post evaluations participatory programmes.Design/methodology/approach: A systematic literature peer-reviewed was undertaken analyse based on: (i) year publication; (ii) location study; (iii) programme delivery; (iv) evaluation...

Achieving climate emissions to meet the 1.5 °C target by 2050 is particularly challenging for agricultural sector. Cleaner Growth Mitigation Measures (CG-MM) are practices and technologies which balance food production greenhouse gas abatement also identified as being economically acceptable. This paper explores a large number of CG-MMs assess their feasibility using novel participatory filtering process. Each measure explored through series mapping exercises with supply chain actors...

Abstract Although the link between agriculture and diffuse water pollution has been understood for decades, there is still a need to implement effective measures address this issue. In countries with light-touch regulation, such as New Zealand Australia, most efforts promote environmental management practices have relied on voluntary initiatives participatory research extension programmes; success of which largely dependent farmers’ willingness ability adopt these practices. Increased...

Greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture, land use, use change and forestry (ALULUCF) are a significant percentage of UK industrial emissions. The Government is committed to ambitious targets for reducing all sources coming under increasing scrutiny. task allocating shares future reductions falls the newly appointed Committee on Climate Change (CCC), which needs consider efficient mitigation potential across range sectors. Economic appraisal and technical effectiveness of adaptation options are key criteria for judging climate change investment decisions in all sectors. Yet relatively little methodological guidance exists determining the most appropriate techniques different options. This paper provides scopes relevant methods agriculture focussing on livestock production specifically. We find that many agriculture, standard (expected) cost-benefit analysis is an tool. For requiring long lead times or those...
