複雑な試料中の酸性成分の分布を迅速に知る方法として,アルカリカラムにより混合物中の酸性成分を選択的に除去する方法を確立した.すなわち,石英粉末に115%カセイカリを担持させたカラムを分離カラムの後に接続し,分離条件と同一の温度,流速下でガスクロマトグラフィーを行なえば,カルボン酸類,フェノール類は混合物から分離されたのち完全に除去される.しかし中性成分はその保持時間,ピークの形,高さになんら影響を受けない.したがって,アルカリカラムを接続した時得られるクロマトグラムを,接続しない時に得られるクロマトグラムと比較することにより,混合物中の各成分ピークの迅速な類別ができる.また活性な水素を有するインデン,ピロール類やケトステロイドも除去されることがわかったので,活性な水素を有する化合物と安定な中性化合物との類別に本法を適用できる.
