A benchmark activity on two-fluid simulations of high-pressure boiling upward flows in a pipe is performed by 12 participants using different MCFD (Multiphase Computational Fluid Dynamics) codes and closure relationships. More than 30 conditions from DEBORA experiment conducted CEA are considered. Each case characterised the flow rate, inlet temperature, wall heat flux outlet pressure. High-pressure Freon (R12) at 14 bar 26 boiled 19.2mm heated over 3.5m. Flow rates range 2000 kg m−2 s−1 to...

Forced convective boiling is of great interest for several applications in the power and process industry, particularly nuclear plants. Depending on type pressurized water reactors, may be encountered cooling channels during startup, nominal, incidental or accidental conditions with void fractions as large 0.90. The objective present study to characterize two-phase flow patterns under such thermal hydraulic conditions. Using experimental data sets obtained a Refrigerant 12 (R12) loop at...

In order to improve the understanding of phenomena underlying boiling occurrence, CEA Cadarache (France) is designing a new experimental setup, intended operate for pressures ranging from atmospheric PWR conditions. This will allow optical access convective flow as well thermal imaging (infrared thermography) heated surface. A two-step methodology heater (particularly its thickness since it directly influences mechanisms) was developed. approach based on solving heat conduction problem...
