The Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) causes infectious mononucleosis, and has been strongly associated with certain human cancers. virus is thought to exclusively bind B lymphocytes epithelial cells via receptors (CR2/CD21) that also interact fragments of the third component complement (C3). Recent evidence, however, challenged this belief. We have used two-color immunofluorescence analysis using biotin-conjugated EBV streptavidin-phycoerythrin along fluorescein-conjugated anti-T cell antibodies...

Objectives We sought to compare ductal stenting (DS) systemic-pulmonary artery shunt (SPS) in a contemporary cohort of patients having pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum (PAIVS). Background Alternative palliative strategies (interventional versus surgical) are currently available for initial palliation dependent various forms congenital heart disease. There is little data guide strategy selection. Methods A retrospective review PAIVS at our institution from Jan 2006 Dec 2013...

Mucosal-associated invariant T (MAIT) cells are a subset of lymphocytes that respond to microbial metabolites. We defined MAIT cell populations in different organs and characterized the developmental pathway mouse human thymus using single-cell RNA sequencing phenotypic metabolic analyses. showed predominant subset, which produced IL-17 (MAIT17), IFN-γ (MAIT1) had not only greatly transcriptomes but also states. MAIT17 exhibited increased lipid uptake, storage, mitochondrial potential...

The purpose of this study was to assess the neurodevelopmental status children after Fontan repair functional single ventricle and examine relationship between cognitive function selected patient characteristics. Study Design. Neurodevelopmental tests including Stanford-Binet Intelligence (IQ) scale Developmental Test Visual Motor Integration (VMI) were administered 32 (26 months 16 years age) with complex ventricle. mean distribution IQ VMI scores compared population norms. test...

Balloon dilatation (BD) of bioprosthetic valves was investigated in vivo and vitro. Four children with stenotic porcine the pulmonary position underwent BD valve 10 to 24 months after its insertion. Average gradient reduced from 47.5 27 mm Hg. Obstruction at conduit-branch artery connection became apparent valve. These distal stenoses were also dilated. technique tested vitro use nonstenotic fresh conduits. No damage or conduit found when oversized balloons used a standard fashion...

The bidirectional Glenn (BDG) is frequently used in the staged surgical management of single ventricle patients. Controversy exists whether accessory pulmonary blood flow (APBF) sources should be left at time BDG to augment systemic saturation or eliminated reduce volume load ventricle. present study was a retrospective review assess influence APBF on outcome after BDG.Ninety-two patients have undergone our institute during interval from 1986 through 1994. At BDG, 40 had either...

Of 220 pediatric patients recovering from surgical repair of congenital heart disease, 147 (67%) met our criteria for early extubation and were extubated either in the operating room or within 6 h after admission to ICU. The duration postoperative mechanical ventilation correlated with cardiopulmonary bypass during repair. In undergoing ventricular septal defect, preoperative measures pulmonary vascular status (PPA/PAO RP/RS) also ventilation.

A 37-year-old woman presented with signs and symptoms suggestive of mitral stenosis insufficiency. Subsequent evaluation demonstrated a left atrial tumor which was suspected clinically at the time initial surgery to be an myxoma. Histologic examination revealed that actually malignant fibrous histiocytoma. Despite near total removal subsequent radiotherapy, recurred within six months in atrium. Re-excision followed by third recurrence same site. Cancer 42:2466–2471, 1978.
