Real-time fMRI neurofeedback (rtfMRI-nf) is an emerging approach for studies and novel treatments of major depressive disorder (MDD). EEG performed simultaneously with rtfMRI-nf procedure allows independent evaluation brain modulation effects. Frontal asymmetry in the alpha band a widely used measure emotion motivation that shows profound changes depression. However, it has never been directly related to acquired data. We report first study investigating electrophysiological correlates...

Abstract The present study examines the relation between posttraumatic stress symptom severity and motives for marijuana use among 103 (55 women) young adult users (current) who reported experiencing at least one traumatic event in their lifetime. As expected, after covarying theoretically relevant variables of frequency past 30‐day use, number cigarettes smoked per day, volume alcohol consumed, was significantly related to coping motives, but no other use. Results are discussed better...

The present investigation examined whether daily smokers with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as compared to either anxiety psychopathology or no current Axis I psychopathology, have decreased success in the early phases of a self-guided smoking quit attempt. Participants were 140 (81 women; Mage=29.5; SD=11.9; range=18–65 years); approximately one-third sample met criteria for PTSD (n=47), other disorders (without PTSD; n=33), and did not meet any (n=60). Consistent prediction,...

Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a chronic and disabling neuropsychiatric characterized by insufficient top-down modulation of the amygdala activity prefrontal cortex. Real-time fMRI neurofeedback (rtfMRI-nf) an emerging method with potential for modifying amygdala-prefrontal interactions. We report first controlled emotion self-regulation study in veterans combat-related PTSD utilizing rtfMRI-nf activity. patients experimental group (EG, n=20) learned to upregulate BOLD left (LA)...

Self-regulation of brain activation using real-time functional magnetic resonance imaging neurofeedback (rtfMRI-nf) is an emerging approach for treating mood and anxiety disorders. The effect training on resting-state connectivity warrants investigation as changes in spontaneous could reflect the association between sustained symptom relief alteration. We investigated amygdala-focused rtfMRI-nf combat veterans with without posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) who were trained to increase a...

The aim of the present investigation was to extend previous work on anxiety sensitivity (AS) and early smoking relapse among a sample 130 (74 females) young adult (Mage=22.5 years, SD=2.1) daily low-level smokers (9.3 cigarettes/day, SD=11.5) from Mexico City, Mexico. Results indicated that global-level lower-order factors (i.e., physical, mental incapacitation, social concerns) Anxiety Sensitivity Index, only physical concerns factor significantly related lifetime relapse. This effect...
