Background: Little is known about the actual treatment of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), either in inpatient or outpatient settings. We hypothesized that there are substantial opportunities for improvement adherence current guidelines and recommendations. Methods: reviewed medical records all hospitalized acute exacerbation COPD between January 2005 December 2006 at 5 New York City hospitals. Results: There were 1285 unique 1653 hospitalizations. Of these 1653,...

Centrifugal microfluidic devices offer a robust method for low-volume fluid handling by combining low-cost instrumentation with highly integrated automation. Crucial to the efficacy of Lab-on-a-Disc (LoaD) device operation is selection valving technology, design on-disc fluidic structures, and accurate control disc spin-speeds (centrifugal force) during operation. The refinement structures often guided inspecting using high-speed camera systems. This approach involves synchronising image...

Understanding how and why errors in healthcare happen is essential to improving patient safety. Yet exposure this learning process usually limited those events occurring one's own institution. Virtual Safety Rounds expands opportunity multiple hospitals. Twice each month physicians; nurses; quality, risk, safety staff participate a discussion about recent event within the system. Within safe collegial environment experiences, plans of correction lessons learned are shared. Hospitals from...

The stability of the factor pattern NOSIE across 3 psychiatric center populations ( N = 3,027) was investigated. 5 significant factors that emerged from principal analyses were tested for invariance using coefficient congruence, root mean square, zero-order correlation, and similarity index. convergence all measures indicated Irritability, Personal Neatness, Social Interest, Competence, Manifest Psychosis remarkably stable settings. psychometric clinical implications results are discussed.

The “Survey Command Structure” initiative refines and streamlines the Hospital Incident System (HICS) structure to more effectively guide a hospital’s management of regulatory survey activity. This newly developed retains hallmark features that make HICS effective but sees addition some new roles along with editing or elimination others. A literature review reveals no other hospitals undertaking similar initiatives address management. directly contributed an outstanding result most recent...
