Birch bark, spruce and hemp hurds were processed with hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) stepwise slow pyrolysis (SSP) the compositions of aqueous liquid products quantitatively compared. The phenolic profiles analyzed different, but overall they contained similar concentrations aromatics compounds (4–43 mM 52–215 mM, respectively). SSP fractional condensation provided liquids lower water content (appr. 80 % in SSP, 95 HTL), HTL process was selective e.g. producing catechols into phase....

This study assessed the pyrolysis liquids obtained by slow of industrial hemp leaves, hurds, and roots. The recovered between a temperature 275-350 °C, at two condensation temperatures 130 °C 70 were analyzed. Aqueous bio-oil produced analyzed proton nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), atmospheric pressure photoionization Fourier transform ion cyclotron mass (APPI FT-ICR MS). NMR revealed quantitative concentrations most abundant compounds in...

Barley husks are a byproduct of grain processing produced in large volumes globally. They contain amount nanostructured silica (nSiO2) which can be converted via magnesiothermic reduction into carbon-rich silicon carbide composite (nSiC/C). The nSiC/C further utilized as precursor for the production graphitic carbons (GCs) under atmospheric pressure at 2400 °C, typically active material Li-ion battery (LIB) anodes. However, current synthesis graphite utilizes fossil-based precursors and...

Nanostructured silicon carbide possesses superior properties such as excellent hardness, high chemical stability, large surface area and good sintering ability at relatively low temperatures compared to bulk carbide. However, its synthesis with conventional methods is still challenging. In the present study, we produced nanostructured from barley husks a simple self-propagating high-temperature synthesis. Barley were chosen raw material because they are agricultural residues widely available...

This study focused on wood extractives by a slow pyrolysis thermal extraction technique and screening of potentially valuable compounds from three African trees: Lophira lanceolata Tiegh. ex Keay., Dialium guineense Willd. Afzelia africana Sm. The primary objective the treatment was biochar production but also liquids were collected analyzed. Raw materials cut into sizes about 25 cm in length then processed with 20°C up to 400°C; process included two stages, drying pyrolysis. Five end-point...
