New software tools are introduced to facilitate diffraction experiments involving large numbers of crystals. While existing programs have long provided a framework for lattice indexing, Bragg spot integration, and symmetry determination, these initial data processing steps often require significant manual effort. This limits the timely availability analysis needed high-throughput procedures, including selection best crystals from sample pool, calculation optimal collection parameters assure...

Abstract While women’s higher education enrollments and graduation rates have outpaced those of men in the United States most countries around world, women are less frequently included academic leadership roles, including presidency. This paper asks what predicts whether when a institution has its first woman president, conceptualizing this event as milestone gender equality. We use national probability sample 234 four‐year U.S. universities colleges, constructing novel longitudinal dataset...

The comparative literature on gender and higher education has increasingly focused differences in access to the fields of science, technology, engineering, math (STEM). We contribute this through a cross-national analysis STEM graduates by between 1998 2018 across 90 countries. Many earlier studies emphasize positive influence global liberal culture women. More recent scholarship contends that women may be steered away from attaining degree more individualistic societies. Our study shows...

The UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs Programme is a global initiative for higher education institutions around the world. Participants are expected to uphold values of UNESCO and contribute development broader society, often beyond national boundaries. Despite lack financial incentives, more than 1,300 from 142 countries have been involved since programme launched in 1992. Drawing on theories concerning both environments, I employ event count analysis investigate what drives successful diffusion...

Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory (SSRL) entered a new era of synchrotron radiation experimentation in March 2004 with the start first experimental run following completion SPEAR3 upgrade project [1]. Intense X-rays at macromolecular crystallography stations, combined state-of-the-art equipment, including high-speed CCD detectors and sophisticated control system software, now enable high-quality diffraction images to be collected only few seconds entire datasets matter minutes. With...
