Patients undergoing radiotherapy for head and neck cancers are prone to a range of dental complications, including mucositis, trismus, xerostomia, radiation caries osteoradionecrosis. Specific considerations include the preventive, restorative rehabilitative management such patients, prevention treatment complications. This article aims highlight current understanding needs patients who have had or will undergo radiotherapy.
Recent research indicates that combining 3D bioprinting and small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) offers a promising 'cell-free' regenerative medicine approach for various tissue engineering applications. Nonetheless, the majority of existing has focused on sEVs sourced from cell lines. There remains notable gap in regarding derived primary human periodontal cells their potential impact ligamentous osteogenic differentiation. Here, we investigated effect bioprinted constructs differentiation...
To enrich and compare three extracellular vesicles-EV subtypes (apoptotic bodies, microvesicles small EV) from periodontal cells (periodontal ligament cells-PDLCs, alveolar bone-derived osteoblasts-OBs gingival fibroblasts-GFs), assess uptake cell function changes in buccal fat pad-derived mesenchymal stromal (BFP-MSCs).Periodontal such as PDLCs, OBs GFs have the potential to enhance bone regeneration, but face significant challenges, regulatory cost implications of vitro culture storage....
Background : Allograft donations are not uncommonly found to be contaminated. The issue of contaminated from live donors at the time surgery, and significance this patient in terms subsequent sepsis arthroplasty, were examined. Methods femoral heads Queensland Bone Bank over a 9‐year period reviewed, incidence bacteriology contamination detailed. Clinical outcomes determined for who had positive cultures retrieval they compared with those culture‐negative donors. Results Between March 1987...
Standing electric scooters (e-scooters) are a cost-effective and environmentally-friendly transport alternative, but also elicit substantial concern regarding associated craniofacial injuries. This study aims to describe the patient factors, procedural factors post-operative outcomes of maxillofacial fractures caused by e-scooter accidents.Retrospective chart review patients aged 18 years or older who were surgically treated for these injuries in 2014-2020 at two Australian tertiary...
A triple-containment magic-angle spinning rotor insert system has been developed and a sample handling procedure formulated for safely analyzing highly radioactive solids by high-resolution solid-state NMR. The protocol containment have demonstrated (MAS) experiments on ceramic samples containing 5–10 wt % Pu239 Pu238 at rotation speeds of 3500 Hz. technique used to demonstrate that MAS NMR can be measure amorphous atomic number fractions produced accelerated internal radiation damage. This...
Abstract Aim The aim of the present study was to compare bacterial load using preoperative rinsing and swabbing techniques for oral surgery with 0.2% chlorhexidine ( CHX ). Methods Participants were healthy volunteers undergoing a general anesthetic removal teeth. randomly allocated receive 15 mL 60 s as either rinse or have their mouths swabbed. Plaque samples aseptically collected pre‐ post‐rinsing from same sites in all patients (the distal surface second molar teeth). Results Patients...
A 21-year-old male presented with acute onset, sharp right sided testicular pain. The testicle was removed a histological diagnosis of vasculitis. Anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies were negative. Although rare, males who present onset pain should be screened for vasculitis scrotal ultrasound and blood investigations including tumor markers anti-neutrophil antibodies.
Fractures involving the bilateral mandibular angle are an uncommon occurrence with limited evidence to inform ideal fixation requirements for adequate treatment. The aim of this study was evaluate outcomes managing fractures and determine whether rigid on 1 side improves compared nonrigid fixation.
