We determined the effect on exercise tolerance and physiological responses of rigorous rehabilitative training in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Fifteen men 10 women (mean age, 68 +/- 6 yr; FEV1, 0.93 0.27 L) participated a rehabilitation program with an component three per week 45-min sessions cycle ergometer for wk intensity kept near maximal targets. Before after rehabilitation, patients performed incremental test constant work rate (CWR) at 80% peak preprogram test....

Background
'Mules' or body packers are people who transport illegal drugs by packet ingestion into the gastrointestinal tract. These otherwise healthy and their management should maintain minimal morbidity. In this study, experience with is presented an algorithm for conservative surgical provided.
Methods
The clinical patient database all packer admissions at Mary Immaculate Hospital of Caritas Health Care Inc. from 1993 to 2005 was interrogated. 56 patients (4.5%)...

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), the accepted cause of infectious mononucleosis (IM), has been associated with a variety neurologic disorders including encephalitis, aseptic meningitis, transverse myelitis, Guillain-Barré syndrome, and Bell's Palsy.1,2 These syndromes may occur as sole manifestation EBV infection or together more typical clinical features IM. It is unclear whether central nervous manifestations result from direct invasion system by indirect mechanism. This report describes...

X-Ray crystallography and 500 MHz proton NMR spectroscopy have been used to investigate the conformations of four diterpenoid lactones isolated from extracts shrub Andrographis paniculata. Abstract Four new sesquiterpenoids, 1,4‐ trans ‐6‐hydroxyisocalamenene; ‐6‐methoxyisocalamenene; (+)‐aristol‐9‐en‐ 12β‐ol, and eudesm‐4(15)‐en‐6β‐acetoxy‐7β‐ol, were isolated from Bazzania tridens , a liverwort species. Their structures identified by means of spectroscopic methods. The two isocalamenenes are derived methyl rearrangement the calamenene skeleton.

Abstract A patient with long‐standing chronic lymphocytic leukemia both humoral and cellular immunodeficiency had lymph node receptor evidence of a B lymphocyte disorder. He was also found to secrete the Epstein–Barr virus and, late in his illness, developed markedly positive antinuclear antibody. Interrelationship these findings may be important ultimate determination etiology functional mechanisms malignancies.
