Abstract Aim Floodplains are among the most biologically diverse systems in world, where hydrological regime is recognized as crucial to structure aquatic communities. We predicted that i) of benthic metacommunity nested drought and random flood season a Neotropical floodplain. expected find ii) environmental homogenization during which may disrupt pattern. Moreover, we identified habitats high taxa richness invertebrates characterized them by habitat type fluvial systems. Methods sampled...
Abstract Aim: Gradients of environmental heterogeneity perform a strong influence on the distribution organisms and determine differences in composition, where more physically complex habitats harbor greater species richness than those simpler. We took as assumptions that requirements taxa promote distinct patterns which are carried through to community nestedness. Therefore, we hypothesized heterogeneous sites hold nested, richer abundant communities less ones. Methods analyzed Chironomidae...
Habitat complexity may stabilize consumer–resource interactions and reduce the probability of invasion in aquatic habitats. We tested hypotheses that (i) higher habitat reduces resource consumption independently grazer species, but (ii) invasive grazers have a greater influence on decreasing resources complexity. performed an experiment using artificial substrates to simulate different levels. evaluated Melanoides tuberculata (O.F.
Abstract Aim Wetland areas have high environmental complexity and support biodiversity. Therefore, global efforts are required to preserve these areas. Here, we show the results of three decades monitoring programs regarding macroinvertebrate species from upper Paraná River floodplain, which is an important wetland conservation area in neotropics. Methods We searched literature 1990 2020 selected studies that addressed questions related benthic or macrophyte-associated macroinvertebrates...
