Abstract Aim Evaluating how groups of organisms vary in dispersal capability and environmental, spatial temporal signals across multiple scales is critical to elucidating metacommunity theory. We examined whether the relative contributions hydrological factors have different effects on organismal with abilities at three scales, this knowledge contributes our understanding dynamics. Location Four major Brazilian floodplains, largest distance among them 2,300 Km. Taxon 10 aquatic groups,...

In this study, diet-tissue discrimination factors and turnover rates were determined from the somatic tissues of a detritivorous fish Prochilodus lineatus. The carbon (Δ(13) C) nitrogen (Δ(15) N) varied for all feed rations with range Δ(13) C values between -1·9 3·6‰ Δ(15) N 3·3 5·7‰. Carbon rate in blood was 23·1 days C3 ration 34·7 C4 ration, liver 9·9 under same (23·1 days) both -C4 rations, 13·9 muscle ration.

In order to verify the carbon source and trophic position of main species fishes, Paraná River floodplain, we analysed proportion stable (delta13C) nitrogen (delta15N) isotopes in muscle fishes sampled rainy season. We analyzed adult individuals Loricariichthys platymetopon, Schizodon borellii, Leporinus lacustris, Auchenipterus osteomystax, Iheringichthys labrosus, friderici, Serrasalmus marginatus. These data were compared with results obtained by analyzing stomach contents. The primary...

Abstract: The Devonian Escarpment (DEEPA), located in the south of Brazil, represents an important area environmental preservation composed by grasslands, gallery forests, as well rock outcrops and archaeological sites. A law project (LP 527/2016), which suggests a reduction DEEPA approximately 70% its original (from 393,579 to 125,895 ha), is currently being processed Paraná State House Representatives. Abstract We investigated whether isotopic niche partitioning could mediate the coexistence between native ( Hoplias sp. B) and non‐native mbigua ) trahira in a Neotropical floodplain. hypothesised that during dry season both species inhabit isolated sites (i.e. lakes) thus rely on distinct food resources to sustain their coexistence. found evidence of trophic segregation among freshwater fish Upper Paraná River, Brazil. Even though same primary littoral carbon sources present similar...

The stable isotopes have been used to obtain the turnover rate in aquatic animals. This is one more tool help making decisions about conservation, considering that anthropic impacts threaten specific areas of food, reproduction and growth species natural ambient. On other hand, aquaculture, knowledge conversion speed food tissue helps better estimate production. Based on that, aim this paper make a revision studies carried out related using isotopes, ecology. consists new synthesis old...

Studies in freshwater ecosystems are seeking to improve understanding of carbon flow food webs and stable isotopes have been influential this work. However, variation isotopic values basal production sources could either be an asset or a hindrance depending on study objectives. Ontogenetic shifts in food preference reduces intraspecific competition as immature individuals eat different types than adults. This diet plasticity could facilitate species' ability to successfully invade and establish itself a new environment, even when co-occurring with phylogenetically close species. Here, ontogenetic of non-native piranha species (Serrasalmus marginatus) was tested by analyzing the relationship between its body length carbon nitrogen stable isotope signatures. Carbon...
