YagE is a 33 kDa prophage protein encoded by CP4-6 element in Escherichia coli K12 genome. Here, we report the structures of complexes with pyruvate (PDB Id 3N2X) and KDGal (2-keto-3-deoxy galactonate) 3NEV) at 2.2A resolution. Pyruvate depletion assay presence glyceraldehyde shows that catalyses aldol condensation glyceraldehyde. Our results indicate biochemical function 2-keto-3-deoxy gluconate (KDG) aldolase. Interestingly, E. genome lacks an intrinsic KDG Moreover, over-expression...
The incorporation of genetic material from other organisms into bacterial genomes potentiates novel forms drug resistance or pathogenicity. One method is through infection by a bacteriophage, which enters the lysogenic life cycle. Excision phage genome as result induction may include some host's genome, and subsequent lysogeny in bacteria would incorporate this nonphage DNA these hosts. Loss ability to excise itself host leads permanent addition genes that have accumulated during previous...
