The Bacteroidales order, widely distributed among diverse human populations, constitutes a key component of the microbiota. Members this Gram-negative order have been shown to modulate host immune system, play fundamental role in gut's microbial food webs, or be involved pathogenesis. Bacteria inhabiting such complex environment as microbiome are expected display social behaviors and, hence, possess factors that mediate cooperative and competitive interactions. Different types molecules can...

Labeling of bacterial cells with fluorescent proteins allows tracking the bacteria in competition and interactomic vivo vitro studies. During last years, a few plasmid vectors have been developed aimed at labeling specific members lactic acid (LAB), heterogeneous group that includes microorganisms used food industry, as probiotics, or live for mucosal vaccines. Successful versatile broad range LAB not only requires vector containing promiscuous replicon widely recognized expression system...

Abstract Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) has become a major health risk and serious worldwide issue. MAFLD typically arises from aberrant lipid metabolism, insulin resistance, oxidative stress, inflammation. However, subjacent causes are multifactorial. The gut been proposed as factor in disease, over the last decade, bacterial strains with potentially beneficial effects on host have identified. In vitro cell models commonly used an early step before vivo drug...

Abstract The oral and gut microbiota constitute vastly diverse complex ecosystems. Their presence affects local distal organs, thus having a major role in health disease. Bacteria forming these communities display social behaviour can positively or negatively impact their neighbours. While the potential for antimicrobial production of Gram-positive bacteria has been widely investigated, research on Gram-negative is lagging behind, also because current bioinformatic tools appear to be...

Can microbiota modulation prevent the development of fatty liver disease? The work described in this article is part Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network “Building a Gut Microbiome Engineering Toolbox for In-Situ Therapeutic Treatments Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease”. We aim to develop new microbial therapies treatment non-alcoholic disease (NAFLD). Various strains from Bacteroidetes phylum were investigated beneficial traits protecting against NAFLD.
