Protein adsorption, as the primary process occurring when a foreign surface comes into contact with biosystem, was studied on thin polymer brush films consisting of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm) and poly(2-vinylpyridine) (P2VP). These were prepared by "grafting to" method. The protein resistance stimuli responsive PNIPAAm-brushes toward serum albumin recorded compared adsorption P2VP brushes. To achieve better understanding resistance, PNIPAAm brushes different molecular weights...
We investigated morphology and wetting properties of textiles modified by chemically immobilized amphiphilic micrometer submicrometer large Janus particles. The particles bind their reactive side to the textile surface, while hydrophobic faces environment. It was found that character immobilization on depends size: larger between fibers, smaller ones fiber surface. In both cases, results in hydrophobization hydrophilic Finally, we demonstrated are very efficient for design water-repellent textiles.
The surface properties of poly(dimethyl siloxane) (PDMS) layers screen printed onto silicon wafers were studied after oxygen and ammonia plasma treatments subsequent grafting poly(ethylene -alt-maleic anhydride) (PEMA) using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), roughness analysis, contact angle electrokinetic measurements. In the case oxygen-plasma-treated PDMS, a hydrophilic, brittle, silica-like layer containing reactive silanol groups was obtained. These surfaces indicate strong...
Controlling the reversibility, quantity, and extent of biomolecule interaction at interfaces has a significant relevance for biomedical biotechnological applications, because protein adsorption is always first step when solid surface gets in contact with biological fluid. Polymer brushes, composed end-tethered linear polymers sufficient grafting density, are very promising to control alter interactions systems their unique structure distinct collaborative response environmental changes. We...
We report on the design, investigation and comparison of adhesive properties poly-(N-isopropylacrylamide) biocompatible polyethylene glycol-based thermoresponsive brushes. Specifically, a poly-(N-isopropylacrylamide), PNIPAM, poly-(oligo(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate-co-2-(2-methoxyethoxy)ethyl methacrylate), P(OEGMA-MEO2MA), methacrylate-co-oligo(propylene P(OEGMA-OPGMA) brushes were synthesised planar silicon wafers silica particles via surface-initiated atom transfer radical...
Two types of carbon‐based materials, i.e., mesoporous carbon and HNO 3 ‐oxidized nanotubes, with nearly the same specific surface area abundant in oxygen‐containing functional groups were selected order to examine their effect on hydration tricalcium silicate (C S), main portland cement component, early stages. Different methods, including XPS TG ‐ MS analyses, electrokinetic potential measurements, as well determination adsorption capacity for calcium ions from aqueous solutions, used...
A multicompartment release system is described which combines the advantages of dendritic architectures and hydrogels to enhance desired delivery features in complex biological compartments. Here, a hydrogel hosts glycopolymers as nanocontainers for drug molecules. The glycopolymer used consists hyperbranched poly(ethylene imine) with maltose shell acts host guest molecule adenosine triphosphate disodium salt hydrate (ATP). ATP uptake from have been elucidated detail dependence on...
Abstract The hydroxy end groups of aromatic and aliphatic hyperbranched poly‐(urea urethane)s prepared with an AA* + B*B 2 one‐pot method were modified phenylisocyanate, butylisocyanate, stearylisocyanate. success the modification reaction was verified 1 H NMR IR spectroscopy. Linear model prepared, too, for comparison. bulk properties OH functionalized poly(urea urethane)s, compared those linear analogues studied differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis,...
Abstract Water‐soluble diblock copolymers (DBCPs) with a polyelectrolyte block are accessible by sequential anionic polymerization of tert ‐butylmethacrylate (TBMA) and ethylene oxide (EO), followed polymer analogous conversion the PTBMA into poly(methyacrylic acid) (PMAA) blocks. These materials highly efficient dispersants for ceramic powders in aqueous media. A series copolymer samples M n ranging from 1300 to 38 900, (EO:MAA) length ratios 0.5 11.7 were prepared polydispersities close...
Steam explosion technique was used to isolate banana fibrils from fiber. The surface polarity of fiber, fibril, and chemically-treated fibril investigated by ultraviolet/visible spectroscopy using solvatochromic probe dye molecules. empirical Kamlet−Taft parameters such as hydrogen bond donating ability HBD (α), accepting HBA (β), the dipolarity (π*), Gutman acceptor number, Reichardts ET(30) values for were determined. It observed that has higher value than Chemical treatment lowered value....
A readily synthetic route to endow the surface of hydrophobic carbon black (CB) particles with primary amino groups has been developed. The adsorption water-borne polyelectrolyte copolymer poly(vinyl amine-co-vinyl amide) (PVAm) on CB was studied as function pH and concentration. amino-functionalization process PVAm strongly depends pH. As shown by electrokinetic measurement pH, content accessible increases increasing OH− alternative functionalization an anionic is demonstrated for...
Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were synthesized by chemical vapor deposition and subsequently purified applying a high-temperature annealing process. The annealed material was characterized using Raman spectroscopy. Next, the interaction of MWCNTs with polycarboxylate (PCE) comb-copolymer surfactants studied regarding quality dispersion in water, focus on influence critical parameters temperature pH. Optical micrographs integral light-transmission measurements revealed that both pH...
