Abstract Drosophila suzukii ovoposits and feeds on healthy fruits, unlike most other species. It has been traditionally reported from Asia, but in the last 2 years it recorded North America, where is causing a lot of agricultural damage. Herein we report first records of, D. Europe. found different localities expanding an altitudinal range 27 to 1550 m above sea level (ab.s.l). Furthermore by comparing collections drosophilids European populations distributed along latitudinal cline were...

Fauna Europaea provides a public web-service with an index of scientific names (including important synonyms) all extant multicellular European terrestrial and freshwater animals their geographical distribution at the level countries major islands (east Urals excluding Caucasus region). The project comprises about 230,000 taxonomic names, including 130,000 accepted species 14,000 subspecies, which is much more than originally projected number 100,000 species. represents huge effort by 400...

The faunistic knowledge of the Diptera Morocco recorded from 1787 to 2021 is summarized and updated in this first catalogue Moroccan species. A total 3057 species, classified into 948 genera 93 families (21 Nematocera 72 Brachycera), are listed. Taxa (superfamily, family, genus species) have been according current interpretations, based on reviews literature, expertise authors contributors, recently conducted fieldwork. Data compile were primarily gathered literature. In total, 1225...

Abstract Elevational gradients influence the distribution and abundance of species drastically can lead to variation in community composition. Although coprophagous flies are ecological economic importance, their biodiversity largely neglected. We studied impact steep elevational geography on sepsid Swiss Alps. Sepsidae a family acalyptrate strongly associated with decaying organic matter vertebrate dung, characterised by high extent sympatry breeding substrates. Historical, haphazardly...

Support for macroecological rules in insects is mixed, with potential confounding interrelations between patterns rarely studied. We here investigate global body and wing size, sexual size dimorphism range common fruit flies (Diptera: Drosophilidae) explore the predictive power of Allen's, Bergmann's, Rensch's Rapoport's rules. found that thorax length (r 2 = 0.05) 0.09) increased latitude, supporting Bergmann's rule. Contrary to often endothermic vertebrates, relative towards poles 0.12), a...

The survival of insect larvae often depends on the mother's choice oviposition substrate, and thus, this is an essential part species' ecology. Especially species with narrow substrate preferences may suffer from changes in availability triggered by, for example, climate change. Recent warming affecting directly (e.g., physiology) but also indirectly biological interactions) leading to mismatching phenologies distributions. However, preferred still unknown many drosophilid species,...

We summarise the findings of arthropods collected by fogging canopy 24 pine trees in two sites Eastern and Western Norway. From samples, taken 1998 1999, almost 30,000 specimens were determined to 512 species, with Diptera being most species rich (210 species), followed Coleoptera (76 species) Araneae (49 species). Of 96 new records, nine science (5 4 Oribatida), European, three Scandinavian 82 Norwegian faunas. The paper demonstrates need for detailed faunistical inventories European forests.

Deceptive flowers, unlike in mutualistic pollination systems, mislead their pollinators by advertising rewards which ultimately are not provided. Although our understanding of deceptive systems increased recent years, the attractive signals and strategies majority species remain unknown. This is also true for genus Aristolochia, famous its fly-pollinated trap flowers. Representatives this were generally assumed to be oviposition-site mimics, imitating vertebrate carrion or mushrooms....

Drosophila species were reared from, baited with and netted over sporophores of the fungal Phallus impudicus. The presence proportions varied between years, areas methods. In first year, 110 used for breeding, in second 16 baiting subsequent breeding. 6417 specimens 10 obtained. suhohscura was reported from England to breed stinkhorn, but did not or even attracted it Switzerland, suggesting a remarkable geographical variation breeding substrate utilization.
