A new methodology is developed to discover and analyze the hidden knowledge of massive taxi trajectory data within a city. This approach creatively transforms geographic coordinates (i.e. latitude longitude) street names reflecting contextual semantic information. Consequently, movement each studied as document consisting traversed names, which enables analysis sets corpora. Hidden themes, namely topics, are identified through textual topic modeling techniques. The topics reflect urban...
Abstract We examine the effect of natural resource extraction on environmental sustainability in Africa. Using comprehensive panel data from 30 countries for 2004–2021 period, we find that reduces sustainability, particularly resource‐poor countries. However, nature this nexus is time‐varying, with exerting a positive and negative impact short long run, respectively. also note strong economic institutions like voice accountability can enhance sustainability. In short, our results shed light...
Abstract We investigate the causal impact of development financial institutions on environmental sustainability in Africa. Drawing a distinctive panel data set encompassing 34 countries from 1980 to 2017, with carbon emissions serving as an indicator sustainability, we discover that enhanced leads increased emissions, especially relation depth these institutions. Furthermore, our study reveals support for Kuznets curve, heterogenous slopes, and shifts over time finance–emissions nexus. Our...
Estimating treatment effects in time series data presents a significant challenge, especially when the control group is always unobservable. For example, analyzing of Christmas on retail sales, we lack direct observation what would have occurred late December without impact. To address this, try to recover event period while accounting for confounders and temporal dependencies. Experimental results M5 Walmart sales demonstrate robust estimation potential outcome as well accurate predicted...
The rates of C H bond activation for various alkanes by [(N–N)Pt(Me)(TFE d 3 )] + (N N = Ar C(Me) Ar; 3,5-di- tert -butylphenyl; TFE- CF CD 2 OD) were studied. Both linear and cyclic give the corresponding alkene-hydride cation [(N–N)Pt(H)(alkene)] via ( i ) rate determining alkane coordination to form a σ complex, ii oxidative cleavage coordinated platinum(IV) alkyl-methyl-hydride intermediate, iii reductive coupling generate methane iv dissociation methane, v β-H elimination observed...
Platinum(II) and palladium(II) complexes are well-known to catalyze the partial oxidation of alkanes. Herein, we present experimental evidence that tunneling occurs in protonolysis M(II)-CH(3) (M = Pt, Pd) model systems. We propose there may be a connection between observation mechanism involving direct protonation M-C bond also expected for electrophilic C-H activation methane by Pt(II) Pd(II) proceeds via proton loss from sigma complex.
The protonolysis of platinum(II) and palladium(II) methyl complexes has been investigated by both experiment computation. Previously the (COD)PtII(CH3)2 CF3COOY or (dppe)PdII(CH3)2 CF3CY2OY (Y = H, D) was found to be accompanied abnormally large highly temperature-dependent kinetic isotope effects (KIEs), suggesting involvement tunneling. Here we find normal KIEs no evidence tunneling for (tmeda)PtII(CH3)Cl D). Density functional theory (DFT) calculations indicate that protonation at metal...
Modern smartphone cameras can match traditional DSLR in many areas thanks to the introduction of camera arrays and multi-frame processing. Among all types effects, narrow depth field (DoF) or so called bokeh probably arouses most interest. Today's smartphones try overcome physical lens sensor limitations by introducing computational methods that utilize a map synthesize DoF effect from all-in-focus images. However, high quality remains be key differentiator between optical bokeh. Empowered...
Abstract We investigate the regulation–technology–environment nexus in sub‐Saharan Africa (SSA), one of world's most rapidly growing regions. Using a comprehensive panel dataset consisting 32 countries from 2000 to 2022, we find that stronger environmental regulations and technological innovation enhance well‐being. Moreover, identify positively affect pro‐environment innovation. Finally, present clear evidence for dynamic nonlinear relationship, ruling out one‐size‐fits‐all policy...
In aqueous solution, [PtII(glycinato)Cl2]− catalyzes oxidation by [PtIVCl6]2− of the methyl group p-toluenesulfonate to corresponding alcohol and aldehyde, with no further carboxylic acid. Both rate selectivity are improved in comparison original Shilov system that employs [PtIICln(H2O)4−n]2−n as catalyst.
In this paper, Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) has been proposed to simulate the well known active contour model (the CV model) for image segmentation. The method provides a new numerical solution solving level set equation of model. As local and explicit scheme, algorithm based on LBM is not only stable with large steps, but also overcomes difficulty in parallel computing most implicit difference approaches. Experimental results demonstrate that computationally more efficient than...
The prevalence of early alert systems (EAS) at tertiary institutions is increasing. These are designed to assist with targeted student support in order improve retention. They also require considerable human and capital resources implement, significant costs involved. It therefore an imperative that the can demonstrate quantifiable financial benefits institution. purpose this paper report on implications implementing EAS Australian university as a case study. study institution implemented...
Abstract Foreign direct investment (FDI) provides many African countries an important source of capital inflow. Despite notable improvements in these capital‐scarce countries' economic, political and social conditions, foreign investors have not considered them viable host locations. Since FDI brings enormous spillovers to its host, some recently institutionalized globalization as the catalyst for reversing trend. Against this backdrop, we examine FDI‐globalization nexus across 47 1996–2016...
